The Bowling Green State University women's golf team battled the wind and rain and 14 other teams on Saturday afternoon to card a 322 on day one of the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational to sit in a tie for first . The weather conditions included rough winds in the neighborhood of 20 mph, a steady drizzle and even some sleet was spotted near the completion of round one.
BGSU will enter the final round tied with Detroit, who also shot 322. Joining them in the final pairings will be Indianapolis, who is one shot back with a 323. Other schools from the Mid-American Conference include Northern Illinois (330, 5th) and Ohio (336, 7th).
Battling rough weather conditions is something head coach Stephanie Young and the Falcons pride themselves on, something that was evident on Saturday afternoon. No other Falcon portrays that trait more than senior Amy Ruthenberg. The captain is currently tied for first among the 92-player field after carding a 77. She is tied with Detroit's Olivia Richards.
Also competing for the Orange and Brown were Shelby Wilson (80, T-6th), Hannah Lewis (82, T-15th), Bailey Arnold (83, T-25th) and Lily Bartell (84, T-32nd).
The Falcons also competed with a “B” squad, recording a team score of 350. That team was led by Kelsey Benson, who carded an 82. She currently is tied for 15th. Also competing for this squad were Patricia Holt (87, T-51st), Julia Hoffman (91, T-68th), Lauren Diehl (91, T-75th), and Jen Blanchard (103, 90th).
The final round of the Dolores Black Falcon Invitation is schedule to begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
