Falcons Complete Split-Squad Weekend
April 27, 2013 | Women's Track and Field
Hillsdale, Mich. / Ashland, Ohio – Jasmine Redman met the Mid-American Conference's automatic qualifying mark in the 5000 and Brooke Pleger continued to excel in the hammer throw as the Bowling Green track and field team competed in two locations over the weekend.
The BGSU throwers competed at the Ashland Alumni Open, while the rest of the squad traveled north to take part in the Gina Relays, hosted by Hillsdale College. The Falcons set a number of personal bests throughout the weekend and moved closer to being prepared for the MAC Championships in two weeks.
Redman starred at Hillsdale, finishing the 5000 in 17:12.70, a time that was 18 seconds better than her previous best and surpassed the MAC automatic qualifying mark by more than a full second. That time places her among the top dozen in the conference.
Not to be outdone, the 4x100 relay team of Kera Lamotte, Taylor Rambo, Brittany Sinclair and Allison Weimer posted a season-best time of 47.21 to place second overall. A number of runners also set personal bests including Tiera Parker in the 100 (12.50 seconds), Taylor Rambo in the 200 (24.78), Felicia Jefferson in the 200 (25.13), Alicia Jefferson in the 200 (25.33) and Megan Monte in the 3000 steeplechase (11:33.02).
At Ashland, Pleger continued to shine, winning the meet against a strong field that included the seventh-ranked hammer thrower in the country. Pleger had her second-best throw of the season at 215-feet-7. Shana Flanary pushed her season-best in the hammer forward by almost seven feet with a toss of 170-4 to rank 12th in the conference in the event.
Currently, Bowling Green is off until the MAC Championships May 9-11, but the Falcons are likely to send a limited squad to a meet this weekend. Follow BGSUFalcons.com for information.
