Falcons Take On Valparaiso In Midweek Doubleheader

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University softball team (18-12, 4-4 MAC) heads to Valparaiso this Tuesday, April 8, for a doubleheader against the Crusaders. The Falcons are 0-3 in the all-time series against Valpo, including an 0-2 record against the Crusaders under head coach Shannon Salsburg.
Bowling Green dropped both games of their doubleheader at Meserve Filed last season, falling to Valparaiso, 4-0, in game one, before dropping a second contest to the Crusaders, 5-0. Paige Berger went 1-for-2 in the first contest, collecting a single and a walk. Jamie Kertes pitched seven innings, giving up eight hits and four runs while also recording four strikeouts. Erika Stratton recorded the only Falcon hit in game two, going 1-for-2 on the day. Paris Imholz was credited with the loss, giving up two earned runs and six hits in six innings of work.
Weekly Review
The Falcons finished this past week with a 5-1 record, including a record of 3-1 in conference play. Bowling Green is now 4-4 in the MAC, with all of those games coming at home. The Falcons are now 9-5 on the road this season, with a record of 5-3 at neutral locations.
Bowling Green started the week with a sweep of Detroit- Mercy Tuesday evening, defeating the Titans by a score of 12-3 in game one and 9-1 in game two. Senior Paige Berger stole the show for the Falcons in game one, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI. Fellow senior Adrienne Dick also belted two home runs, going 2-for-5 with a team-best four RBI. Senior Hannah Fulk also hit a home run in game one, while junior Katie Yoho led Bowling Green with three hits. Sophomore Jamie Kertes picked up the win after allowing just one earned run and striking out five in the first 5.0 innings of play. Freshman Braiden Dillow also saw action, striking out two while allowing two earned runs in the final 2.0 frames.
Berger once again had a strong performance in game two, hitting her third home run of the day in a 2-for-3 performance. Sophomore Emily McClelland went 2-for-3 in the contest, hitting her first career home run in the victory. In total the Falcons collected seven extra-base hits, including doubles from Fulk, Dick and freshman Marisa Shook. Junior Erika Stratton recorded a double and a triple, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Paris Imholz (10-4) earned the complete game victory, giving up just one earned run and striking out four.
Bowling Green won both contests against the Akron Zips Friday afternoon, taking game one by a score of 3-0, before completing the sweep with a 2-0 shutout victory.
Junior outfielder Katie Yoho collected one of the Falcons' five hits in game one, going 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Junior catcher Erika Stratton also collected an extra-base hit, earning a double while going 1-for-2 at the plate. Sophomore Jamie Kertes (6-6) picked up the complete-game shutout victory, allowing just one hit and striking out six in the contest.
Yoho continued her offensive surge into game two, going 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Sophomore Paris Imholz (11-4) also continued Bowling Green's excellent pitching, allowing just five hits and striking out six in the complete-game shutout win.
The Falcons lost a tough game to Ohio Saturday afternoon, falling to the Bobcats by a score of 5-1 at Meserve Field. Bowling Green defeated Ohio University Sunday afternoon, dropping the Bobcats by a score of 3-2 to earn the series split. Senior Hannah Fulk recorded two of the Falcons' eight hits in the contest, going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Junior Katie Yoho also recorded two hits, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Freshman Marisa Shook went 1-for-2 with a team-best two RBI in the victory. Sophomore Paris Imholz (12-4) was credited with the win, allowing just four hits and striking out one in the first 5.0 innings. Fellow sophomore Jamie Kertes allowed just one hit and struck out three in relief, holding the Bobcats scoreless for her third save of the season.

Sophomore Jamie Kertes recorded her third save of the season against Ohio, giving her nine over the course of her career. Kertes is now tied with teammate Paris Imholz for the most in the history of the program. Imholz has two saves this season after leading Bowling Green with seven in 2012
POW Nominations
Sophomore Jamie Kertes helped the Falcons a 5-1 record this past week, going 2-1 with a save. Kertes carried an impressive ERA of 1.17, allowing just three earned runs over 18.0 innings pitched. Kertes also held opponents to just 10 hits and two walks over that span, accounting for a .666 WHIP. Kertes' week was highlighted by a complete game shutout of Akron on Friday, allowing just one Zip hit and striking out six in the victory. Kertes led the Falcons with 19 strikeouts in just 18.0 innings pitched.
Senior Paige Berger helped the Falcons to a 5-1 record this past week, including a record of 3-1 in MAC play. Berger led Bowling Green in nearly every offensive category, including hits (9), runs (9), total bases (20) and slugging percentage (1.111). Berger carried a team-best .500 batting average this past week, while also belting three home runs. Berger's three home runs pushed her career total to 34, giving her the most in Bowling Green history. Berger earned a .571 on-base percentage over the six-game span, while also recording a stolen base and a fielding percentage of 1.000.
