Brooke Pleger Named First Team All-MAC
May 14, 2013 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green redshirt sophomore Brooke Pleger was named first team All-MAC, based on results at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Pleger won the hammer throw at the MAC Championships, launching the apparatus 216-feet-3, setting a new meet record in the process. Following the conclusion of the meet, she was also named the conference's Most Outstanding Field Athlete for the year. She is BGSU's first track and field MAC champion since 2005.
Throughout the year, Pleger has consistently been one of the top hammer throwers in the country, currently ranking fifth in the nation and second in the East region. She had a personal best throw of 219-9 at the Northeast Ohio Invitational and has thrown at least 212-6 in every meet she has competed in this year. Only ten other hammer throwers in the country have even reached that mark once.
Pleger earned MAC Field Athlete of the Week honors three times this year and has won the hammer throw at the Raleigh Relays and the Ashland Alumni Open as well as the Northeast Ohio Invitational and the MAC Championships. She has also qualified to compete in the USA Track and Field Outdoor National Championships June 19-23 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Pleger will compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Round May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C. The top 12 finishers at that event will advance to the NCAA National Championships June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore. BGSU has not had a national championship qualifier since Kerri McClung did so in 2005. The Falcons have not had an All-American in women's track and field since Stephanie Heldt in 1999.
