Men’s Golf Tied For Fifth At The Mid Point of the MAC Championships

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team carded a 36-hole score of 609 (310-299) to sit in a tie for fifth at the Mid-American Conference Golf Championships on Friday afternoon. The three-day event is being played at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
Following the first round the Falcons were in eighth-place after firing a 310, but rebounded nicely in the round two, concluding the day with a 299. The Falcons' round two score was the lowest of the nine teams, allowing the Orange and Brown to climb three spots. That climb also put the Falcons to within striking distance of several teams. In fact, when Saturday's round begins the Falcons will trail the second-place team by just eight shots (trailed by 14 after round one).
Kent State leads the tournament (591), followed by Ball State (601), Toledo (601), Akron (607), BGSU (609), Eastern Michigan (609), Miami (616), Ohio (626) and Northern Illinois (635).
Individually, the Falcons were led by newcomer Ryan Triller, who was competing in his first career MAC Championship. Triller will enter Saturday tied for fourth among the 45-player field after carding a 36-hole score of 147 (74-73).
Competing in his last MAC event was senior Charlie Olson, who fired a 153. The senior opened with a 78 and improved in round two with a 75. Olson will begin Saturday tied for 16th.
Also partaking in the weekend's events were Joe Cooper (79-76--155, T-23rd), Wes Gates (81-75--156, T-28th) and Chris Melvin (79-82--161, 37th).
Saturday's round is scheduled to begin at 7:50 a.m., with the Falcons set to tee off between 8:40 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. The BGSU tee times are as follows: Melvin (8:40 a.m.), Gates (8:50 a.m.), Cooper (9 a.m.), Olson (9:10 a.m.) and Triller (9:20 a.m.).
