Falcons Drop 3-0 Decision To Northern Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University softball team lost to Northern Illinois University Saturday afternoon, falling to the Huskies by a score of 3-0 at Mary M. Bell Field. The loss drops the Falcons' overall record to 26-21, including a record of 9-12 in the Mid-American Conference. Northern Illinois improves to 23-29 overall, with a conference record of 13-8.
Senior Paige Berger recorded one of the Falcons' two hits in the ball game, collecting a single in a 1-for-2 day. Junior Erika Stratton picked up Bowling Green's other hit, going 1-for-3 with a single. Sophomore Paris Imholz (16-7) was credited with the loss, giving up three hits and one earned run with three strikeouts in 3.0 innings of play. Fellow sophomore Jamie Kertes also saw action, allowing two hits and striking out two in the final 3.0 frames.
Strong pitching from both teams carried a scoreless tilt into the bottom of the fourth frame, where Northern Illinois was finally able to break the scoring drought. The Huskies mustered three hits in the inning, crossing home plate two times to give Northern Illinois the 2-0 lead.
The Huskies were able to add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning, crossing home plate one time on one hit and one error in the frame. Trailing 3-0 heading into the seventh, Bowling Green was unable to break through the Northern Illinois defense, giving the Huskies a 3-0 win.
The Falcons look to rebound on Sunday, May 5 when they take on the Huskies in the final game of the 2013 regular season. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. (EST).
