Holt Qualifies For U.S. Amateur
July 17, 2013 | Women's Golf
Patricia Holt, who recently completed her second year as a member of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team, recently qualified for the 113th United States Amateur Golf Championship after recording a 1-over 73 (35-38) in the lone qualifying round.
Holt did not just qualify for the US Amateur, she dominated the competition, finishing in a tie for first among the 31 competing women golfers. The soon to be junior recorded three birdies and four bogeys in her round.
"I played the best golf of my life," said Holt. "It was the most consistent round I've ever played. I stayed very level-headed, something I've really been working on. It was a great course, and required accuracy more than length, which suited my game. I really had to place my shots to get a good angle, but the greens was where the main challenge presented itself. They were fast with a lot of undulation, it took a lot of concentration. I made a lot of par saves."
The tournament, which was held at Forest Hills Golf Course in Forest Lake, Minn., provided Holt with a difficult challenge on the first couple holes.
"I got up and down on the first three holes for par, and sunk a long putt on the fourth to get to one-under, and that's when I knew if I continued to play steady, I had a real shot to qualify," said Holt.
The Frisco, Texas, native will not be the only Falcon competing in the prestigious tournament. Holt will be joined by Lily Bartell, who qualified back on July 1, also recording a 73. You can follow here story HERE.
"I am so excited to play in the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship," said Holt. "It is such a huge honor to qualify and I could not be more excited that Lily will be representing Bowling Green at this championship as well. I think it shows that our team is really going places, and I'm excited to see what this next year holds for us. It is a wonderful feeling to know that a lot of hard work and dedication is paying off."
