Bartell Qualifies For 113th U.S. Amateur Championship

Lily Bartell, who recently completed her freshman year as a member of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team, qualified for the 113th United States Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston from Aug. 5-11.
"I am so very excited and this is definitely a great milestone for me and my game," said Bartell. "The first thing I did was contact my dad, who couldn't be there, and then my coach and teammates. It's so amazing to have a team that I know backs me up 100 percent and that we can support each other with all of our accomplishments." It's exciting to be able to represent the Carolinas at the championship and it's awesome that the tournament is so close to home!"
The qualifying site would send 10 players (and two alternates) to the U.S. Amateur Championship, with Bartell finishing in a nine-way tie for sixth, following a 73 on Monday afternoon at Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
With five players already advancing to the Championship, Bartell and the other eight golfers would be competing for five spots. Bartell would birdie the 18th to secure her spot in the top-10, a hole she would bogey to complete her round earlier in the day.
"This is a huge accomplishment for Lily," said BGSU head coach Stephanie Young. "She is such a competitor and plays with such fire and determination. The way she qualified against such a talented field reflects this as well as her hard work, determination and skill. I am so proud of Lily and am excited for her to experience a USGA Championship."
The sophomore-to-be is the second Falcon in school history to advance to the U.S. Amateur Championship, following Susy Grunden, who accomplished the feat in 2010.
