Pleger, BGSU Track And Field Team Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

New Orleans, La. – Brooke Pleger became the first Bowling Green student-athlete to earn the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic award in six years and the BGSU track and field program earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honor, as announced earlier.
"An important part of our team goals revolves around success in the classroom, both individually and as a team," BGSU Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "We are proud of Brooke and the team for their academic achievements from the past year. In our sport, it is no accident that high athletic and academic accomplishments go hand-in-hand. Moving forward, we will look for a higher team GPA and hopefully more individual All-Academic qualifiers."
Pleger became the first BGSU track and field student-athlete to earn the individual honor since Jamie Roflow in 2007. To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and meet either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Pleger won the NCAA East Region preliminary in the hammer throw and advanced to the NCAA Championships, placing seventh overall in the event to earn first team All-American status. She was named the Mid-American Conference's Most Outstanding Field Athlete after breaking the MAC Championship record in the hammer throw to win the event.
As a team, Bowling Green was one of 187 programs to be named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, meeting the minimum requirement of a 3.00 team grade point average with a 3.02. It is the seventh consecutive year in which the program earned the honor.
