Holt, Bartell Finish First Round At US Amateur

Charleston, S.C. - Two members of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team, Patricia Holt and Lily Bartell, competed in the 113th United States Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston Monday.
The championship format requires the first two rounds (36 holes) to be stroke play to determine the 64 players who will advance to match play.
Holt, who shot a 1-over 73 (35-38) to qualify, finished the day at 13-over 84 (38-46). Holt started strong, making a birdie on the par-3 third. After a bogey on the fourth, Holt rebounded with yet another birdie on the par-5 fifth hole, rounding out a 38 on the front nine.
Holt is currently is tied for 149th position and will need to be in the top 64 to advance Wednesday.
Bartell, who also qualified with a 1-over 73 at Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, posted a score of 81 (43-38) in the first round of the U.S. Amateur Championship.
After firing a 43 on the front nine, Bartell would open the back nine with a birdie on the par-4 10th. Bartell would go on to par five of the final eight holes en route to finishing 10-over, and is currently tied for 130th overall.
In the selected field of 156 players, Holy and Bartell joined Susy Gruden as the only Falcons to ever compete in USGA Championship. Gruden competed in 2010 and finished with a two-day score of 164 (79-85).
Holt will tee off at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, while Bartell is set to start her second round in the early afternoon with a 1:10 p.m. tee time. Fans can follow their live scores at the USGA website by CLICKING HERE.
