Senn-sational! Paul Senn Named MAC Player Of The Week
September 16, 2013 | Football
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green's Paul Senn was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week after a highlight-reel blocked punt that ranked No. 1 on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays for Saturday.
Senn, a junior linebacker from Norco, Calif., found an opportunity to place his stamp on Saturday's football game against Indiana late in the first quarter. With BGSU trailing 7-0, the Falcons forced Indiana to punt and Senn stormed through the line untouched on fourth down. He reached the Indiana punter just as he was ready to kick the ball, smothered the ball right off the punter's foot and never broke stride as he raced to the end zone for the tying score. Senn was credited with a 56-yard touchdown and became the first BGSU player to record a touchdown off of a blocked punt since 2002.
On top of that, Senn also recovered a fumble on special teams early in the second quarter. After Tyler Tate's 45-yard field goal put the Falcons ahead 10-7, BooBoo Gates stripped Indiana return man Damon Graham on the ensuing kick-off and Senn pounced on the loose ball to give the Falcons great field position at the Indiana 31.
Senn is the second Falcon to earn MAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors this year, joining Ryan Burbrink, who earned the award on the strength of a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown against Tulsa in the season opener.
At 2-1 on the season, Bowling Green returns home Saturday to host 2-1 Murray State at 3:30 pm. That game will be broadcast exclusively on ESPN3. The Falcons will look to remain undefeated in Doyt Perry Stadium this year.
