Houston, Burbrink Named MAC Players Of The Week

Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green freshman running back William Houston was named the Mid-American Conference's East Division Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore punt returner Ryan Burbrink was named MAC East Division Special Teams Player of the Week today.
Houston, a freshman from Dublin, Ohio appearing in his first collegiate contest, scored three second-half touchdowns, all from one-yard out as Bowling Green defeated Tulsa 34-7. The Falcons led just 6-0 at the half, but Houston capped off a six-play, 75-yard drive to start the third quarter with his first plunge of the game. Early in the fourth, he had another touchdown and his third put the Falcons ahead 27-0 midway through the final quarter. In all, he carried the ball 10 times for 29 yards, picking up two first downs to go with the three scores.
Burbrink, a sophomore from Shady Side, Mary., had a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that accounted for the Falcons' final score of the evening in the 34-7 win over Tulsa. After a 42-yard Tulsa punt, Burbrink fielded the ball at the Bowling Green 33 and scampered 67 yards for the score and a 34-0 BGSU lead. In all, Burbrink had 76 punt return yards on the evening. Burbrink was also named national punt returner of the week by the College Football Performance Awards earlier today.
Bowling Green opened the season with a 34-7 win over Tulsa, a unanimous choice to win its division in Conference USA. The Falcons, at 1-0, will play at Kent State to open Mid-American Conference play Saturday at 12 pm.
