Knoxville, Tenn. – After almost a month away from competition, the Bowling Green swimming team returns to the pool Saturday for the Tampa Relays, hosted by the University of Tampa. The meet begins at 10 am.

ABOUT THE TAMPA RELAYS
Approximately a half-dozen teams will compete at the Tampa Relays Saturday in the unique relay meet. The competition schedule is listed below, with the 800 free relay beginning at 10 am.

LAST TIME OUT
BGSU sent five student-athletes to the USA Swimming AT&T Winter National Championships Dec. 5-7. Against some of the top competition in the country, the Falcons showed progress. Jordan Bullock swam 2:04.08 in the 200 butterfly, the best time for a BGSU swimmer this year in the event. Stephanie Boyle posted the top finish for the Falcons, ending 28th in the 400 individual medley in 4:35.34.

TEAM RANKINGS
At the midway point of the 2013-14 swimming season, the Falcons are one of five MAC schools ranked among the top 100 teams in the country, according to CollegeSwimming.com. In fact, Bowling Green is third among all conference schools at No. 84, just behind Miami (ranked 52nd) and Akron (at No. 81). Buffalo is currently No. 94 and Toledo just snuck into the rankings at No. 100. Oakland, a team the Falcons faced in a non-conference dual meet, is at No. 63. CollegeSwimming.com also ranks the "Mid-Major" programs and the Falcons are No. 35 in the country among those programs.
INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
BGSU freshman Victoria Griffin has swam the fastest time in the Mid-American Conference this year in the 100 freestyle at 49.87 seconds. The Falcons are ranked among the top three in the MAC in six different events and have as many as three swimmers with top 10 conference times in the 200 breaststroke. The 200 freestyle relay team has the second-fastest time in the MAC this year, while Griffin is third in the 200 freestyle and Daniela Carrillo is third in the 200 breaststroke. UNBEATEN
Freshman Victoria Griffin remains unbeaten in both the 100 and 200 freestyle in dual meets this year, going 4-0 in the 100 and 3-0 in the 200. Griffin also won the 100 freestyle at the TYR Invitational, setting a new school record time of 49.87.

SCHEPS NAMED SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Senior Joëlle Scheps was named the Mid-American Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Nov. 13 after winning two individual events and racing as part of a winning relay in the team's dual meet at Oakland. Scheps is an individualized business major with a 4.00 grade point average.

GRIFFIN NAMED MAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK TWICE
It hasn't taken long for Victoria Griffin to make her mark in the Mid-American Conference. The freshman earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors on Nov. 4 after winning three individual events and two relay races in weekend meets against Miami and Xavier. She was once again named MAC Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 25 after setting a new school record in the 100 freestyle and reaching the NCAA "B" cut in the event at the TYR Invitational.

CARRILLO CONTROLS THE BREASTSTROKE
A year ago, Daniela Carrillo competed at the NCAA Championships in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, setting BGSU school records in both events. Once again, she is in position to represent the University, ranking among the top five in the MAC in both.

400 FREESTYLE RELAY PUSHING TO NEW HEIGHTS
Bowling Green has won the 400 freestyle relay in all three dual races in which the event was competed in. Victoria Griffin, Kayla Effinger, Petra Laudova and Brittany Szekely swam a season-best time of 3:29.92 to win at Eastern Michigan, while Effinger, Erica Nieminen, Maya Skorupski and Griffin also won at Xavier in a time of 3:33.61. The team of Griffin, Szekely, Hannah Newman and Joëlle Scheps pushed the season-best time to 3:29.69 in a win at Oakland. Griffin, Effinger, Scheps and Szekely finished second at the TYR Invite, swimming a season-best 3:25.33.
