Five Falcons Top Academic All-MAC Football Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio—The Mid-American Conference announced the 2013 football Academic All-MAC team, as voted on by the faculty athletics representatives from the 13 member institutions, on Friday morning. Bowling Green State University topped the list with five student-athletes on the team. A total of 41 student-athletes were honored by the conference.
Tyler Beck, David "Chief" Kekuewa, Tyler Tate, Ronnie Goble, and Chris Pohlman were all named to the 2013 Academic All-MAC team.
Beck, a native of Wyomissing, Pa., holds a 3.78 in accounting. Beck caught 10 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns in 2013. His biggest catch of the year came on a catch-and-run in the MAC Championship to give the Falcons an early 7-0 lead. He was also integral in blocking for school-record holder Travis Greene, who rushed for 1,594 yards on the season.
Kekuewa, who hails from Keaau, Haw., had a 3.56 and graduated in December from Bowling Green State University. A first-team All-MAC center, Chief anchored an offensive line which helped the Falcons gain 2,700 yards rushing and 3,700 through the air. Kekuewa was a captain in 2013.
Tate, who has a 4.00 in exercise science, is a native of Carroll, Ohio. Tate was 59-61 on extra points and 18-22 on field goals for 113 points. He finished sixth all-time for points in a single season, finished second for extra points made and attempted, and his 18 field goals made were the second most in school history for a single season.
Goble, from Plymouth, Mich., has a 3.68 in exercise science. He is scheduled to graduate in May. Goble, who was a captain in both 2012 and 2013, had 21 tackles in 2013, including nine solo tackles. Goble recorded 1.0 sack and 2.0 tackles for loss and registered two quarterback hurries.
Pohlman, a native of Delphos, Ohio, holds a 3.835 in engineering technology. Pohlman had four receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown, but was primarily used as a run-blocking fullback. He blocked for a rushing attack that rushed for over 2,700 yards and included school record holder Travis Greene rushing for 1,594 yards.
