McLain, O'Connor Named Pizza Hut Athletes Of The Week
October 27, 2014 | General, Ice Hockey, Volleyball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Pizza Hut Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Mitch McLain and volleyball player Paige O'Connor.

Male Athlete of the Week
Mitch McLain, a freshman from Baxter, Minn., tallied two goals and an assist as Bowling Green hockey went 1-0-1 on the road in a non-conference set against Clarkson. McLain was a team-high plus-3 over the weekend. He scored the final goal of Friday night's 2-2 tie midway through the second period and then had his first multi-point game of his career Saturday. His even strength goal in the first period put the Falcons ahead 3-1 and his assist followed later in the stanza to cap a four-goal period.
Female Athlete of the Week
Paige O'Connor, a freshman from Ada, Mich., hit a team-best .312 on the weekend, and led BGSU Volleyball to a four-set win over Toledo in the Battle of I-75. She had 11 kills and two blocks, hitting .385 in the victory over the Rockets Friday night. Six of those kills came in the opening set to put BGSU ahead quickly. She followed that up with a team-high eight kills Saturday against Ball State, hitting .227 with a block. In all, she had a team-high 19 kills on the weekend.
