Carroll, Ohio native wins weekly award for third time this season and second consecutive week
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference named Bowling Green State University placekicker Tyler Tate the MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 6) morning. It was the third time that Tate has been honored with the weekly award, and the second consecutive week.
A redshirt junior from Carroll, Ohio, Tate continued his excellent season in Saturday's 36-35 win over Buffalo. In a game that was decided, in part, by a missed field goal, Tate made three field goals (32, 35, 31) and three extra points to help the Falcons down the Bulls. Despite a swirling wind which made kicking conditions very difficult, Tate tallied 12 points in the win – second-most for him on the season. It was the third time this season that Tate has surpassed double digits in scoring, also doing so against Indiana and UMass.
The Falcons will continue MAC play this weekend when they travel to Ohio University for a Saturday showdown on ESPN3. The game will kickoff at 2:00 pm inside of Peden Stadium. The Falcons (4-2, 2-0 MAC) will look to defeat the Bobcats (3-3, 1-1 MAC) for their third straight win.
