THE SERIES WITH THE TITANS OF DETROIT: UDM LEADS 23-16
Since the first meeting between these two teams back in 1953, the Titans of UDM lead the overall series 23-16. Sunday afternoon's meeting will mark the eighth straight year in which these two teams have met on the hardwood with the Falcons entering this year's meeting on a three-game winning streak over the Titans. However, the last two games in Detroit have gone in favor of the home team, as the Titans posted a win in both 2010 and 2009.
CURRENT FALCONS VERSUS DETROIT
A total of eight current Falcons have suited up and seen time on the floor versus the Titans during their careers at BGSU. Redshirt-senior Anthony Henderson, who led BGSU with 15 points in the win over UDM last season, is averaging 6.0 points per game in three games against Detroit. Both Jehvon Clarke (10.5 points & 5.5 assists versus Detroit) and Richaun Holmes (9.0 points & 2.0 blocks versus Detroit) will be playing the Titans for the third time in their careers as Falcons, while Chauncey Orr, who missed last year's meeting, is averaging 5.5 points per game over two contests versus Detroit. Michigan native's Spencer Parker and JD Tisdale each recorded seven points in last year's home win over the Titans, while both Josh Gomez and Damarkeo Lyshe also played in the 64-62 win a year ago at the Stroh Center.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"Detroit is a very talented basketball team. Their only two losses have been on the road to Michigan and Oregon. They will also be riding the momentum of a big road win in their last outing."
"Detroit has a number of talented players, but it starts with Juwan Howard, Jr. He is a mismatch nightmare for opposing coaches. He can score at all three levels and we will hope to slow him down. It will be another game facing multiple defensive looks so we will have to stay organized on the offensive end. They have not lost at home this season, but we are looking forward to the challenge."
A WIN WOULD ...
* Make BGSU 4-0 to start the season for the first time since opening up the 1999-2000 season with three straight wins. That year the Falcons won the MAC Championship.
* Make first year head coach Chris Jans the first BGSU men's basketball coach since Harold Anderson to win his first four games as the head coach of the Falcons. In his first year as head coach in 1942-43, Anderson won his first 14 games with the Falcons.
* Give BGSU its fourth straight win over the Titans with all four wins coming over each of the last four years.
* Make the Falcons 2-0 in true road games on the season.
* Give the Falcons four wins in November for the first time since the 2011-12 season when BGSU went 4-2 over the month of November.
HOME SWEET STROH
BGSU has called the Stroh Center home since the 2011-12 season and has posted an overall record of 32-17 at the venue. The Falcons have won seven or more games at home every season since the Stroh's opening for the 2011-12 season and are 2-0 at home thus far this year.
THAT 70'S STROH
BGSU is a perfect 17-0 at the Stroh when scoring 70 points or more in a contest. That means the Falcons have scored 70 or more points at home in over half of their wins at home in front of the home crowd in the Stroh Center.
IT'S A BLOCK PARTY
In just three games thus far this season, BGSU is averaging 6.3 blocks per game as a team.
