LAST TIME THEY MET
Date: March 5, 2013
Location: Kent, Ohio (M.A.C. Arena)
Score: Kent State, 69-61
Notes: The Bowling Green men's basketball team overcame a 17-point first half deficit to take a brief lead, but Kent State closed with a 12-3 run to defeat the Falcons 69-61 in the M.A.C. Center. The Golden Flashes jumped out to a 35-18 lead, but the Falcons used a furious 11-0 run in the final two minutes of the first half to get back in striking distance. A Jordon Crawford steal led to a fastbreak lay-up by Craig Sealey to start the rally. Kent State missed shots on its next two possessions and Chauncey Orr answered with scores to make it 35-24. A bench technical turned into two Orr free-throws to get the Falcons within nine. With just 16 seconds left, Spencer Parker got one of his game-high three steals and Sealey scored and was fouled, making the free throw. That made the score 35-29 at the half. BGSU added to the run to start the second half on a Cam Black free throw and a Crawford layup, but Kent State continued to hold onto the lead despite numerous BGSU runs. The Falcons got within one on an A'uston Calhoun dunk with 15:32 left, but the Golden Flashes' Randal Holt hit a three-pointer 10 seconds later to keep the Falcons at bay. Finally, after a Chris Evans layup gave Kent State a 57-52 lead with 9:18 to go, BGSU used a six-point spurt to take the lead. Crawford made a layup and Richaun Holmes poked away an entry pass that turned into a Jehvon Clarke layup with 8:39 to go. After Darren Goodson missed a three-pointer, Sealey corralled a long rebound and went coast-to-coast for a dunk that gave the Falcons a 58-57 lead with 7:29 left. But from there, BGSU scored just three points the rest of the way and Kent State took control. Crawford missed a three-pointer that would have put BGSU ahead by four and Goodson was fouled on the other end. He made two free throws to put Kent State back on top for good. Mark Henniger took over inside, connecting on a three-point play and scoring on a layup to put the Golden Flashes ahead 64-58. Holmes momentarily got the Falcons back within four as he caught an alley-oop pass from Crawford with 2:43 to play, but that was BGSU's last field goal. Kent State got a tough jumper from Kris Brewer and made just enough free throws down the stretch for the 69-61 win.

LAST TIME OUT
Bowling Green, Ohio – BGSU's Jehvon Clarke banked in a three-pointer from the top of the key with 12 seconds left in the game to tie the score at 63-63, only to see Akron's Quincy Diggs sink a long jump shot from the left wing on the ensuing possession with only four seconds remaining to send the Zips to a 65-63 win over the Falcons on Sunday night at the Stroh Center. The Falcons fall to 10-13 overall and 4-6 in the MAC with the loss, while Akron improves to 16-7 overall and leads the East Division at 8-2. BGSU erased a 14 point deficit to battle back and tie the game with just over 12 seconds to go in the game on a Clarke three-pointer and forced Akron to win the game as time ticked away in the contest. BGSU had four players in double figures led by Clarke's game-high 19 points, while Richaun Holmes tallied his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds to also go along with his four steals and three blocked shots. Coming out of the halftime break, in which the Zips led 35-26, Akron pushed its lead back out to 14 at 41-27 on a Diggs jumper at the 18 minute mark of the second half. BGSU refused to quit and looked towards its defense to fuel its offense, as the home team bounced back with a 15-5 run over the next 5:30 of play to trim the Zips' lead to four at 46-42 on a jumper from Anthony Henderson with 12:33 to go in the game. After Akron pushed its lead back out to 10 on a dunk from Harney at the 9:34 mark, BGSU again battled back to once again get within four points of Akron at 52-48 with 7:21 to play. BGSU would cut the Akron lead to three at 57-54 on a Black jump hook in the paint, before back-to-back free throws from Holmes placed the Falcons down just one at 57-56 with 3:10 on the game clock. Akron's Treadwell scored on a driving layup for the Zips on the next possession to give Akron a three-point lead at 59-56, only to see BGSU answer with a free throw from Holmes next time down to put the home team down just two at 59-57 with just over two minutes in regulation. Following a Diggs jumper, Parker hit two straight free throws to keep BGSU down just two as time ticked down to under a minute in the contest. With 46 seconds to play, Treadwell got an offensive tip-in basket to put Akron back out in front by four. With less than a minute to play, Parker hit 1-of-2 free throws to put BGSU down three at 63-60. The Falcons were forced to foul on the next Akron possession to try to extend the game. Akron's Treadwell missed the front end of a 1-and-1, while Holmes hauled in the missed shot. Holmes handed the ball off to Clarke who calmly walked the ball up the court. As time ticked down, BGSU looked to attempt to run a play when Clarke pulled up from the top of the key and banked in a three-pointer over an Akron defender to tie the score up at 63-63 with 12 seconds to play. The Zips pushed the ball up along the left sideline where Diggs faked a drive and pulled up for a jump shot just a foot inside the three-point line. The shot went through the net with just over four seconds to go in the game giving Akron a 65-63 lead. BGSU's last chance heave at the buzzer went wide of the basket, as Akron escaped with the two point win.
ONE MORE FOR ORR
Coach Louis Orr has currently amassed 199 career wins as a head coach at his three posts (BGSU, Seton Hall and Siena) and is only one win shy of 200 career victories. Coach Orr is also only one way from amassing his 100th career win at BGSU.
HOLMES' HOUSE: CLOSING IN ON HIS OWN SEASON RECORD
Junior forward Richaun Holmes has totaled 68 blocks thus far this season and has posted five blocks or more in a single game six times this year. Last season, Holmes set a new BGSU single-season record with 73 blocks on the season overall and this year is on pace to break that record as he is averaging 2.96 blocks per game.
FINAL HOMECOMING FOR SENIOR CAM BLACK
Wednesday night's contest at Kent State will be the final contest for senior Falcon Cameron Black at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio. Black, a Kent, Ohio native, went to nearby Roosevelt High School.
HOLMES' DUNK IN THE FIRST HALF VS. AKRON PLAY #2 ON ESPN'S WEEKEND TOP PLAYS
Richaun Holmes received a pass from Jehvon Clarke and drove the lane before throwing down a one-handed slam over Akron's Pat Forsythe at the 11:09 mark of the first half on Feb. 9. The dunk was featured on ESPN SportsCenter's Weekend Top-10 Plays later on that night as the No. 2 play.
SLOW STARTERS OUT OF THE OPENING TIP IN MAC PLAY
The Falcons have been slow starters in MAC play this season, as over their first 10 MAC games BGSU has trailed five minutes into the contest in six of those games. The Falcons have been outscored 79-51 over the first five minutes of play in conference games this season, a differential of 28 points following the opening tip until the 15 minute mark of the first half.
DOUBLE DIGIT DEFICIT DISTRESSES
Bowling Green has proven to be a notoriously slow starting them this season, as the Falcons have fallen behind by double digits in 18 of its 23 contests this season. Oddly enough, when BGSU doesn't fall behind by double digits (5 times) the Falcons are 5-0 on the season. BGSU is just 5-13 in the 18 contests in which the orange and brown has trailed by double digits at some point in the game.
CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR
In each of the last two contests for the Falcons, BGSU has battled back to overcome a double digit deficit to cut the opponents lead to a single possession late in the second half before ultimately dropping the contest in the closing minutes. Bowling Green cut a 16 point Toledo lead down to one midway through the second half and to as close as two points as last as the 3:16 mark of the contest before falling to the Rockets, 83-76. Versus Akron, BGSU erased a 14 points deficit to tie the game up at 63-63 with 12 seconds to go in the game. Akron would hit a shot with just over four seconds to play to escape with the 65-63 win over BGSU.
GETTING TO THE LINE
Aggressive play has aided the Falcons this season, as BGSU is 7-2 on the year when making more free throws than its opponent for the game. Overall BGSU is 57-21 under head coach Louis Orr when hitting more free throws than its foes over the last six + seasons.
70 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
The magic number for the Falcons is 70 - as in 70 points per game. BGSU is 4-2 this season when scoring 70 points or more and 43-17 overall under head coach Louis Orr since his first year at BGSU in 2007-08. On the flip side, Bowling Green is only 6-11 this year when scoring less than 70 points and 58-67 overall during Orr's tenure when not amassing 70 points or more.
WORKING OVERTIME ON THE FLOOR
A number of BGSU players in Jehvon Clarke, Anthony Henderson, Damarkeo Lyshe and Spencer Parker have all logged more minutes this season alone than they had for their entire careers prior to this year.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE FREE THROW LINE MAKES
The Falcons have been up and down all season long at the free throw line as a team. In BGSU's 10 wins this season, the Falcons have shot 69.3 percent from the charity stripe. However, in their 13 losses the Falcons have hit on only 58.0 percent of their free throw attempts. In fact, in BGSU's three-game winning streak earlier this month, the Falcons as a team shot 76.0 percent from the line and most recently shot 69.7 percent from there in its win over Buffalo on Feb. 2.
FOUR SCORES ... IN MAC PLAY
The Falcons have four players averaging double digit points thus far this year in MAC play. Jehvon Clarke (14.0), Richaun Holmes (13.6), Spencer Parker (12.8) and Anthony Henderson (12.2) are all averaging double figures in BGSU's 10 MAC games.
COMEBACK KIDS
In each of the Falcons last three wins - at Western Michigan, at Ohio and versus Buffalo at home - BGSU has erased a double digit deficit. At Western Michigan, BGSU came back from a 15-point deficit in the second half to earn a 69-64 win. Versus Ohio, the Falcons overcame an 11 point first half lead to upend the Bobcats 58-56, and at home against Buffalo, BGSU overcame a 10 point first half deficit to storm back for a 74-68 win.
CLARKE CARRYING THE FALCONS OVER THE LAST FIVE GAMES
Over the last five games, Clarke has averaged 16.8 points, 6.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest for the Falcons. The junior guard has scored in double figures in four of the last five games, including posting a career-high in points twice during that span. Clarke also recorded his first career double-double in the win over Buffalo and nearly had a triple double in that game with 11 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
ANT-THREE-NY ON FIRE SINCE KALAMAZOO
Since his break out game of 27 points in a win at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, shooting guard Anthony Henderson has been on a tear from behind the three-point line. Over his last seven games, which includes the WMU win, Henderson has shot 53.7 percent from downtown, as he is 22-of-41 from long range. He is averaging 3.1 made trey balls per game over his last seven outings and he has connected on four or more three pointers in four out of the last seven contests.
ROAD TRIUMPHS IN 2013-14
Bowling Green has posted three road wins this season - at Morehead State, at Western Michigan and at Ohio - which has already tripled it's win total in true road games from last season. Prior to last season, the Falcons won only four road games in each of the previous two years.
A BLOCK FOR BLACK & HOLMES - SHARPIE
You can sharpie in a block for both Cam Black and Richaun Holmes at the opening tip, as each Falcon big has posted at least one block in a game double digit times. Holmes has registered at least one block in 21 contests this season, while Black has recorded at least one swat in 17 different games on the year.
CHASING OTIS
Both Cam Black and Richaun Holmes are chasing former Falcon Otis Polk for the most career blocks in BGSU men's basketball history. Polk's 159 career swats is 18 blocks ahead of Holmes who is in second-place overall with 141 career rejections. Black is only one spot behind Holmes with his 135 career blocks.
BGSU MEN'S HOOPS RANKED IN THE TOP-25 IN STEALS AND BLOCKS
BGSU enters the contest ranked in the top-25 nationally among a number of defensive categories in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball statistical rankings released on Monday, Feb. 10. BGSU is also 28th in total steals with 190 swipes on the year.
AMONG THE NATION'S LEADERS IN BLOCKED SHOTS
BGSU's Richaun Holmes is ranked in the top-25 in the nation in both blocks per game and total blocks. Entering the week of play, the 6-8 forward is ranked 20th in the nation in total blocks with 68 on the season and 21st overall with an average of 2.96 blocks per game.
DEFENSIVE PROWESS
BGSU takes pride in its defensive prowess, as the Falcons are second in the MAC in scoring defense, allowing only 64.2 points per game on the season. BGSU is also second in the conference in blocked shots per game (5.8) and third in steals per game (8.3). In Conference play only, BGSU is holding its foes to only 63.2 points per game, which ranks fourth in the MAC, while the Falcons also lead the league in blocked shots in league play with 5.2 per game.
AT THE TOP IN THE MAC
Bowling Green's Richaun Holmes leads the MAC in blocked shots on the season, as he has 68 total blocks and an average of 3.0 per game, while Anthony Henderson is ranked second in the MAC in steals with an average of 2.1 per contest and 49 total thefts overall. Jehvon Clarke leads the league in minutes played with an average of 35.9 minutes per contest.
NO REST FOR THE WEARY
Bowling Green has four players in the top-10 of the league in minutes played thus far this season. Jehvon Clarke (35.9), Spencer Parker (35.1) and Anthony Henderson (33.6) are 1-2-3 in the MAC in minutes played this season, while Richaun Holmes (31.7) ranks 10th in the MAC in minutes played on the year.
2ND HALF > 1ST HALF
Bowling Green has proven to be a second half team this season, as the Falcons have scored 104 more points (786 > 682) over the final 20 minutes of play compared to the first 20 minutes of action so far this year. Four of BGSU's six lowest total points output per half this season (18, 19, 19, 21) have come in the first half of play.
KEEPERS OF THE RIM: BLOCK BROTHERS
BGSU's duo of Cam Black and Richaun Holmes continue to prove to be an effective last line of defense for the Falcons, as the tandem have combined for 101 blocks over the Falcons' 23 games this season. Both Holmes (141) and Black (135) are already in the top-three all-time at BGSU in career blocked shots.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
The Falcons this season have had a balance scoring attack, as in 21 of their 23 games this season BGSU has had multiple players record double digit points. In fact, BGSU has had at least three different players post double digit points in 19 of those 21 contests this season, while six different players have registered double digit points in at least one game thus far this year.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK: TAKE 5
BGSU has had all five starters score in double digits in three different contests this season (Earlham, Presbyterian, Morehead State), all of which were wins.
BREAK OUT SEASONS FOR THE FALCONS
BGSU has had a number of players already have break out seasons thus far in 2013-14, as seven different Falcons have recorded career-high's in points thus far this year with multiple players setting multiple career marks. Bowling Green has also seen a handful of players set career marks in other statistical categories such as rebounds, steals, assists, blocked shots and minutes played.
CLARKE'S HOT START AS A STARTER
Junior guard Jehvon Clarke, who made his first career start in the season opener versus Earlham, has started every game for BGSU this season. Clarke is averaging 12.8 points, 5.0 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 steals as a starter in 2013-14. He leads the team with 114 assists on the year and in minutes played with an average of 35.9 per contest.
PARKER STEPPING UP
Sophomore Spencer Parker has stepped up his game thus far this season, as the forward is averaging 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game on the year. Parker, who was thrust into the starting lineup in the second game of the season due to injuries, has scored in double figures in 19 contests for Bowling Green this year, including setting a career-high in points per game on four different occasions. He also has surpassed the 20 point mark three times this season. Parker is also second on the team and in the MAC in minutes played per game with 35.1 per contest.
PAINT PRESENCE
Head Coach Louis Orr's philosophy is always to play inside-out and the Falcons have done that well during his tenure. Over his last four-plus seasons, BGSU has scored 20 or more points in the paint in 133-of-156 games. BGSU has scored a high of 58 points in the paint twice during that span, including 58 points in a win versus Earlham in the season opener.
HISTORICAL ROAD WINS
With their back-to-back road wins at Western Michigan and at Ohio, the Falcons posted wins at Kalamazoo, Mich. and at Athens, Ohio for the first time in the same year since the 1990-91 season.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
In the last two years, the Stroh Center has proven to be a difficult place for opponents to play. The Falcons went 23-9 at home over the last two years, including posting a 3-0 mark at home in 2011-12 against teams that eventually went to the NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Falcons are 29-15 in the Stroh Center, which comes out to a .659 winning percentage.
THAT 70'S STROH
Bowling Green is 15-0 all-time when scoring at least 70 points in the Stroh Center. The Falcons reached 70 points at home four times this year, six times last season in 2012-13 and dropped 70 points or more five times in 2011-12.
WHAT YOU CAN DO, I CAN DO BETTER
Guards Jehvon Clarke and Anthony Henderson each took on the scoring load in the Falcons' contest at Toledo on Feb. 5, as both Clarke and Henderson recorded 23 points apiece in the loss. Both had eight points in the first half and 15 points in the second half of play. Both starters also had nine made field goals for the game and seven rebounds. Clarke held a slight 8-6 advantage in assists over Henderson.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
For the first time in over two years, the Falcons had two players each post a double-double in the same game. Richaun Holmes (16 points / 10 rebs.) and Jehvon Clarke (11 points / 11 rebs.) each posted a double-double for BGSU in the 74-68 win over Buffalo on Feb. 2.
ONE DIME SHY OF A TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Junior guard Jehvon Clarke posted his first career double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Buffalo on Feb. 2, but he was also only one assist shy of recording the first triple-double of his career as he dished out nine helpers in the win. The last Falcon to register a triple-double was Nate Miller against Buffalo back on Feb. 13, 2007.
CLEANING THE GLASS
Juniors Richaun Holmes and Jehvon Clarke became the first BGSU duo since 2011-12 to each post 10 rebounds or more in the same game. Both Holmes and Clarke had 10 rebounds apiece in the Falcons' win over Buffalo on Feb. 2. The last tandem to do that was Oglesby and Thomas against UTSA back on Jan. 1, 2012.
BLACK COLLECTS CAREER REBOUND NUMBER 500
Senior Cam Black grabbed six rebounds in the win at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, which allowed him to surpass the 500 career rebounds milestone.
BGSU'S HENDERSON EARNS MAC EAST DIVISION WEEKLY AWARD
Bowling Green's Anthony Henderson scored a career-high 27 points in the win over Western Michigan on Jan. 19 and was rewarded as the MAC East Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Jan. 20.
HENDERSON NAMED THE MADNESS MID-AMERICAN MEN'S BASKETBALL POTW (1/20)
Redshirt-junior Anthony Henderson was named the Madness Mid-American Men's Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness (www.collegesportsmadness.com) on Monday, Jan. 20. Henderson was key in the Falcons going 2-0 last week, with both wins coming in MAC play, and snapping a four-game losing skid. The shooting guard averaged 20 points, a team-high, 1.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists on the week, as he shot over 52 percent (9-of-17) from behind the three-point line in 73 minutes of play.
20/20 SCORING
In BGSU's 67-57 win over Central Michigan on Jan. 16, the Falcon's Richaun Holmes and Spencer Parker both posted 20 points apiece for the game becoming the first tandem of Falcons to score 20 points or more in a single game since A'uston Calhoun and Jordon Crawford each poured in 21 points apiece last season at Miami on Jan. 16, 2013.
NEW FACE ON THE BGSU ROSTER
Redshirt-senior Shaun Joplin (Sylvania, Ohio) joined the BGSU roster in Jan. 2014. Joplin was a four year letterwinner on the Falcons' football team and was a pivotal part of the BGSU MAC Championship run this past season.

Bowling Green State University's Richaun Holmes was tabbed the Madness Mid-American Men's Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness (www.collegesportsmadness.com) on Dec. 16. Holmes registered back-to-back career-highs in blocked shots during the week, posting seven in both a home win over North Dakota and a road win at Morehead State. His seven blocks tied the school record for the most blocks in a single game and is the most by a BGSU player in a single game since Scott Vandermeer totaled seven versus Ohio back on Feb. 7, 2005.
HOLMES TABBED MAC EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK TWICE THIS SEASON
Bowling Green State University forward Richaun Holmes has twice been named the MAC Men's Basketball East Division Player of the Week. The junior received the weekly conference award back-to-back weeks on Dec. 9 and 16.
BLOCK HISTORY
The Falcons 14 total team blocks on Dec. 15 at Morehead State set a new BGSU single game record for the most blocks in a game. The previous record was 13 blocks, which BGSU set just one game earlier versus North Dakota on Dec. 11.
MUCH NEEDED ROAD WIN
The Falcons picked up its first road of the season on Dec. 15, as BGSU defeated Morehead State 67-61 in Morehead, Ky. The road win was the first non-conference road win for BGSU since a 61-53 win at FIU on Dec. 22, 2011 and is the first overall road win for the Falcons since last year, a 57-41 road win at Northern Illinois on Feb. 6, 2013.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE X TWO
Senior Cam Black posted two straight double-doubles in the Falcons two contests in Cancun, Mexico at the 2013 Cancun Challenge. The 6-10 center posted 12 points and 14 rebounds versus Presbyterian and then 10 points and 13 rebounds against Oral Roberts. With his second straight double-double, Black becomes the first Falcon to accomplish that feat since Nate Miller posted three-straight double-doubles in March of 2008.
WE'LL TAKE THAT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
The Falcons set a new school record for thefts as a team in a single game in its season opener versus Earlham, as BGSU recorded 22 steals overall for the game. Guards Jehvon Clarke and JD Tisdale each recorded six steals apiece, both career-highs.
RECORD SETTING SEASON OPENING WIN OVER EARLHAM
The 53-point win over Earlham was the largest margin of victory for a Falcons' team since BGSU defeated Urbana 114-52 back on Dec. 22, 1999. BGSU also reached the 100-point mark for the first time since defeating Urbana 103-78 back on Nov. 21, 2003. The Falcons had six players score in double figures in the season opening win for the first time since the Nov. 28, 2009 vs. Milwaukee.
FRESH FACES
BGSU head coach Louis Orr has four new players on the 2013-14 squad. JD Tisdale (Flint, Mich./Swartz Creek High School), Zack Denny (Germantown, Ohio/Valley View High School), and Garrett Mayleben (Milford, Ohio/Milford High School) will all join transfer Josh Gomez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Rice High School/Iona) among this year's incoming class.
FALCONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY
Bowling Green will play a minimum of three games this year on Time Warner Cable Sports, per the Mid-American Conference regional television package. BGSU will play at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, at home versus Miami (Ohio) on Jan. 25 and then once more at home against Akron on Feb. 9 on TWC Sports. The Falcons will also play on ESPN3 vs. South Florida, at Wisconsin and at Western Michigan, as well as twice on a Fox Sports Network affiliate in Fox Sports 1 at Xavier and Fox Sports Midwest Plus at Saint Louis.
