Kent, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University track and field team sent a limited group to the Kent State Tune-Up Saturday and the Falcons excelled at the meet.
Brooke Pleger and Kori Reiser competed in the weight throw and Makenzie Wheat took part in the shot put competition. Both Reiser and Wheat set new personal bests, while Pleger threw the weight a distance that would have been a school record just a week ago.
Pleger won the weight throw against 57 other competitors with a distance of 66-feet-5.75. Prior to a week ago, that distance would have broken the school record by more than two feet. But after throwing 67-10.25 at the GVSU Big Meet, she was unable to climb the national leaderboard.
Reiser, on the other hand, set a new personal best and placed eighth overall with a distance of 53-1. That is nine inches further than her previous best and moves her into the top 20 in the conference in the event.
Wheat placed third out of 50 competitors in the shot put, pushing her personal best to 49-5.75, almost two feet further than the 47-10 she threw at the Findlay Open in late January. It also solidifies her hold on a spot in the top 10 in the conference and puts her in position to score at the MAC Championships next weekend.
Bowling Green will compete in the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at Kent State.
