February 26, 2014 | Baseball, General, Gymnastics
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green senior baseball player Andrew Kubuski and senior gymnast Megan Harrington earned the Mid-American Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards.
Kubuski, who holds a 3.66 grade point average as a mild to moderate intervention specialist major, went 5-for-12 over the weekend to extend his team-leading batting average to .417. In BGSU's win over Murray State, he went 2-for-4 with a run scored. He extended his hitting streak to seven games dating back to 2013 by posting a hit Saturday and two more Sunday. He added an RBI and two more runs scored over those final two contests.
Harrington, who has a 3.74 grade point average in communications/tourism, leisure and event planning, scored a 38.900 in the all-around as BGSU Gymnastics defeated Northern Illinois 194.825-193.075 Sunday to move to 4-1 in MAC play. Harrington guided the Falcons to their first four-win conference season since 2010 by scoring a meet-high 9.875 on the floor and adding scores of 9.750 on vault and 9.725 on balance beam. With the win, Bowling Green earned the opportunity to share the MAC regular season championship for the first time since 2002 when it faces Kent State on March 6.
It marks the second time this year that BGSU has swept both Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards, joining Nov. 13 when men's soccer player Ryan Comiskey and swimmer Joelle Scheps earned the honors. Men's soccer player Michael Wiest and football player Tyler Tate have also been honored this year.
