LAST TIME THEY MET
Date: Feb. 16, 2013
Location: Akron, Ohio
Score: Akron, 67-50
Notes: Sophomore Richaun Holmes broke Bowling Green's single season blocked shot record but the BGSU men's basketball team fell short late in a 67-50 loss on the road at Akron. Akron won its 17th consecutive game to move to 21-4 overall and 12-0 in MAC play. The Falcons weathered an early shooting slump to make things interesting late. BGSU drew within six points with less than four minutes remaining and had four chances to get even closer, but Akron kept BGSU from scoring and eventually made its free throws down the stretch to pull away late. Holmes went on to block four shots in the contest, giving him 62 on the season. He also scored a career-best 15 points and added eight rebounds. BGSU missed its first nine shots of the game and Akron took an 11-1 lead before A'uston Calhoun's jumper with 11:33 remaining in the first finally broke the slide. The Falcons clawed back to within three on a 10-3 run, but Akron again extended the lead. Luke Kraus connected on the first of his three three-pointers as the first half expired to pull BGSU back within eight at 29-21. While the two teams combined to score just nine points in the first six minutes of the first half (all nine by Akron), the teams scored 30 in the first six minutes of the second half (15 points each) as the pace picked up. Kraus' second three-pointer brought BGSU to within six and the Falcons still trailed 44-38 on a Holmes layup. After an Akron turnover, the Falcons had two shots to take the lead, but were unable to convert and the Zips quickly took momentum back on a Brian Walsh bank shot and a Treadwell lay-up. Akron eventually pushed the lead to 12 but the Falcons used an 8-2 run, capped by a Calhoun jumper with 5:31 left, to draw within six at 55-49. Over the next two minutes, BGSU had four chances to claw even closer but three missed shots and a turnover gave Akron the opportunity to slip away with the win. The Zips outscored the Falcons 12-1 the rest of the way, making all 10 of their free throw attempts. After shooting just 24 percent in the first half, BGSU improved to 41 percent in the second half for 33 percent on the evening. The Zips did hold a 43-35 rebounding advantage and committed only eight turnovers, seven fewer than BGSU.

LAST TIME OUT
Toledo, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Falcons got 23 points from both Jehvon Clarke and Anthony Henderson, yet saw their valiant comeback effort to overcome a slow start fall short, as Toledo shot 27 more free throws than the Falcons to hold off BGSU for the 83-76 MAC win on Wednesday night at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio. The Falcons were whistled for 24 fouls for the game, compared to just 11 on the Rockets, as Toledo shot 35 free throws for the game compared to the Falcons eight foul shot attempts. BGSU was 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) from the free throw line, while the Rockets were 29-of-35 (82.9 percent) from the charity stripe for the game. The Falcons got a career-high 23 points from Clarke, as well as 23 points from Henderson, a Toledo native, who played all 40 minutes of the contest. Spencer Parker chipped in with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Cameron Black hauled in a team-best 10 boards. The Rockets, who lead the MAC in points per game on the year, had four players in double figures led by Justin Drummond's 22 points, as he was 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Fellow starters Rian Pearson and J.D. Weatherspoon added 16 and 12 points apiece, respectively, while point guard Julius Brown had 10 points in 32 minutes of play. Bowling Green was plagued by foul trouble all game, as Richaun Holmes picked up two quick fouls and was forced to go to the bench less than three minutes into the game. BGSU had six players with three fouls or more for the contest. BGSU got to within one score of the Rockets on 11 different occasions in the final 20 minutes of play, yet couldn't get that one stop or that one go ahead basket to overcome a huge 16 point first half deficit. Following a Pearson layup by Toledo, the Falcons stayed hot offensively, getting a jumper from Clarke, two free throws from Parker and an fast break layup from Henderson over the next three minutes of play to get to within one basket at 47-45 with just over 15 minutes in regulation. BGSU got to within two at 50-48 on a three-point from Henderson at the 13:59 mark, then used layups from Black and Clarke to cut the Toledo to one point at 55-54 with 11:30 to go in the contest. However, Toledo big man Matt Smith hit a key three-pointer on the very next possession to push the home team's lead back out to four at 58-54. Baskets from Parker and Holmes put BGSU down just two at 58-56 and then 60-58, yet the Rockets were able to use free throws and two three-pointers from Drummond over the next several possessions to stay out in front and push its lead to six at 71-65 with 5:25 to play. Back-to-back buckets from Henderson again put the Falcons down just one field goal at 71-69 with 3:16 to go; however, a jumper from Drummond less than a minute later again kept the Rocket s out in front by four at 73-69. Over the final three minutes of the game, Toledo shot 12 free throws, hitting 10 of them down the stretch to hold off the Falcons second half charge and escape with the 83-76 home conference win. Bowling Green shot 46.4 percent (32-of-69) for the contest, including going 18-of-37 (48.5 percent) in the second half, and held the Rockets of Toledo to only 23-of-62 (37.1 percent) shooting for the game.
MASCOT BEHEADINGS TRADITION
At halftime of the men's game, the beloved mascots of BGSU will be "beheaded" in what has become an annual tradition of revealing the people beneath the Falcon feathers.
ONE MORE FOR ORR
Coach Louis Orr has currently amassed 199 career wins as a head coach at his three posts (BGSU, Seton Hall and Siena) and is only one win shy of 200 career victories. Coach Orr is also only one way from amassing his 100th career win at BGSU.
WHAT YOU CAN DO, I CAN DO BETTER
Guards Jehvon Clarke and Anthony Henderson each took on the scoring load in the Falcons' contest at Toledo on Feb. 5, as both Clarke and Henderson recorded 23 points apiece in the loss. Both had eight points in the first half and 15 points in the second half of play. Both starters also had nine made field goals for the game and seven rebounds. Clarke held a slight 8-6 advantage in assists over Henderson.
CLARKE PLAYING OUT OF HIS MIND OVER THE LAST 5 GAMES
Over the last five games, Clarke has averaged 16.0 points, 6.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest for the Falcons. The junior guard has scored in double figures in four of the last five games, including posting a career-high in points twice during that span. Clarke also recorded his first career double-double in the win over Buffalo and nearly had a triple double in that game with 11 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
ANT-THREE-NY ON FIRE SINCE KALAMAZOO
Since his break out game of 27 points in a win at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, shooting guard Anthony Henderson has been on a tear from behind the three-point line. Over his last six games, which includes the WMU win, Henderson has shot 53.8 percent from downtown, as he is 21-of-39 from long range. He is averaging 3.5 made trey balls per game over his last six outings and he has connected on four or more three pointers in four out of the last six contests.
GETTING TO THE LINE
Aggressive play has aided the Falcons this season, as BGSU is 7-1 on the year when making more free throws than its opponent for the game. Overall BGSU is 57-20 under head coach Louis Orr when hitting more free throws than its foes over the last six + seasons.
WORKING OVERTIME ON THE FLOOR
A number of BGSU players in Jehvon Clarke, Anthony Henderson, Damarkeo Lyshe and Spencer Parker have all logged more minutes this season alone than they had for their entire careers prior to this year.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE FREE THROW LINE MAKES
The Falcons have been up and down all season long at the free throw line as a team. In BGSU's 10 wins this season, the Falcons have shot 69.3 percent from the charity stripe. However, in their 12 losses the Falcons have hit on only 57.4 percent of the free throw attempts. In fact, in BGSU's three-game winning streak earlier this month, the Falcons as a team shot 76.0 percent from the line and most recently shot 69.7 percent from there in its win over Buffalo on Feb. 2.
COMEBACK KIDS
In each of the Falcons last three wins - at Western Michigan, at Ohio and versus Buffalo at home - BGSU has erased a double digit deficit. At Western Michigan, BGSU came back from a 15-point deficit in the second half to earn a 69-64 win. Versus Ohio, the Falcons overcame an 11 point first half lead to upend the Bobcats 58-56, and at home against Buffalo, BGSU overcame a 10 point first half deficit to storm back for a 74-68 win.

ONE DIME SHY OF A TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Junior guard Jehvon Clarke posted his first career double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Buffalo on Feb. 2, but he was also only one assist shy of recording the first triple-double of his career as he dished out nine helpers in the win. The last Falcon to register a triple-double was Nate Miller against Buffalo back on Feb. 13, 2007.
CLEANING THE GLASS
Juniors Richaun Holmes and Jehvon Clarke became the first BGSU duo since 2011-12 to each post 10 rebounds or more in the same game.
