ATHENS, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team lost to host Ohio University on Saturday (April 12) afternoon, falling to the Bobcats by a score of 6-0. Playing at the Ohio Softball Field, the Falcons (16-20-1, 4-5 MAC) fell to the Bobcats (22-17, 7-2 MAC) in game one of the Mid-American Conference weekend series.
Freshman Amanda Durham and Aspen Searle led the Orange and Brown offensively, combining for all three of Bowling Green's hits in the game. Durham, who went 2-for-3 with a double in the game, recorded her fifth multi-hit game of the season under eighth year head coach Shannon Salsburg. Meanwhile, Searle extended her hitting streak to six games by going 1-for-3 in the losing effort. Searle has recorded a .450 batting average (9-for-20), four RBI, one double and two homers during the stretch.
Junior Jamie Kertes (10-15), who started in the circle for the Falcons, picked up a tough loss, allowing one earned one on five hits in 2.2 innings of work. Sophomore Braiden Dillow finished the game, surrendering four hits and two earned runs in the closing 3.1 innings of the contest.
The Bobcats plated four runs in the bottom half of the second inning to hand Ohio an early lead, and never looked back as Ohio held Bowling Green scoreless for the just the second time in conference play this season.
After Ohio extended their lead to 6-0 after a two-run fifth inning, the Falcons threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning. Searle's single up the middle followed by Durham's double to left field placed runners on second and third with one out. However, the Orange and Brown could not come up with timely hitting when needed, and could not plate a run in the inning.
Bowling Green will turn right back around and take on Ohio in the second game of the MAC weekend series on Sunday (April 13) afternoon. The first pitch is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field in Athens, Ohio.
