BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University football team completed spring practice on Saturday (April 5), running 138 plays in 78 minutes during their annual spring game. The first-team offense got the better of the second-team offense on the scoreboard, as Matt Johnson led the first-team offense to a 34-13 victory.
The first part of the scrimmage featured the first team offense squaring off with the second team defense, and vice versa.
The first-team offense got the scoring started on Saturday, as quarterback Johnson rushed untouched into the end zone from 15 yards out for a touchdown. Tyler Tate would add the extra point. The first-team offense would then extend their lead to 10-0 a few minutes later, as Grant Goldberg knocked a 29-yard field goal through the uprights.
After a few possessions where the defense would hold strong and force the Falcon offense into punts, the offense would strike again. Johnson would drop back and find wide receiver Gehrig Dieter in the corner of the end zone for a 39-yard touchdown pass, giving the first-team offense a 17-0 lead after the extra point.
Although the scrimmage did not feature an official clock, the Falcon offense ran 69 plays during the first 15 minutes of game time on Saturday under sunny skies at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
Johnson would find Dieter all alone later in the first half, connecting on a 21-yard completion for their second touchdown of the game.
