The Bowling Green State University Football program has announced a special addition for the 2014 season in 14 year old Michael Dandan. Dandan is currently fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a form of blood cancer. He was diagnosed in October 2013 and has been in remission since November. Dandan joins the Falcons through an organization called Team IMPACT. Â A native of Waterville, Ohio, Dandan is the son of Gloria. He also has the support of his stepfather Steve, his 13 year old sister Sam, his one year old brother Max, and his two dogs. Â While undergoing preventative treatment for the next two and a half years, Dandan will be a member of the Falcons. His favorite number is 37, and he plays offensive line when allowed to take the field. His favorite food is pizza and wings. Dandan started playing football in sixth grade, but is currently unable to play due to his treatments. Â This past weekend, Dandan took his "official visit" to Bowling Green State University, and committed on Sunday (Aug. 4). A photo gallery including his official visit and Dandan signing his National Letter of Intent can be found above. Â Team IMPACT matches children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team. The organization matches these courageous kids with local college athletic teams. Team IMPACT children are drafted onto the team and become an official member of the team from Draft Day through to Graduation. The child joins the athletic team and the student athletes join the child's support team.
The child gains great strength, camaraderie and support and the student athletes are taught lessons about courage, resiliency and life perspective that they can't learn in a classroom.
Through a structured relationship management methodology, we establish and cultivate these relationships to ensure a successful experience for the families and teams involved.
