BGSU Women’s Golf Tees-Off 2014 Fall Slate on Sept. 7-8

Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University women's golf head coach Stephanie Young's 2014-15 squad will tee-off its 2014 fall slate this Sunday and Monday, Sept. 7-8, at the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.
The Redbird Invitational will be a 54-hole event over the two days of play, with 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday at the par-72, 6,086-yards Weibring Golf Club. There will be an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start both days.
This year's tournament field is comprised up of 16 teams in Ball State, Bradley, Bowling Green, Butler, Central Michigan, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, host Illinois State, Loyola, Marshall, Northern Illinois, Oakland, Ohio, South Dakota State and Western Illinois.
For the fourth consecutive year the Falcons open up at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Illinois, as BGSU took third as a team last season, second in 2012 and fifth in 2011.
Coach Young will send out a veteran lineup to open up the 2014 fall season, as seniors Patricia Holt and Shelby Wilson will be joined by juniors Hannah Lewis, Lily Bartell and Lauren Diehl.
Holt returns for her senior season in 2014-15 after posting a stroke average of 78.35 over 23 rounds of golf last year, which ranks in a tie for the third lowest single season stroke average in BGSU history. She also recorded four top-20 finishes in 2013-14, including two-top-10 finishes with a sixth-place showing at the Cleveland State Invitational with a combined score of 152, +6 (75-77) and placed in a tie at 10th-place at the Rocket Classic (82-73-77) with a 54-hole score of 232, +16. Holt also finished a BGSU best 14th-place at the 2014 MAC Championships with rounds of 84, 73 and 76 to wrap up the spring season. Last year, she turned in a 20th-place finish at the Redbird Invitational (74-77-78).
Like Holt, Wilson is back for her final year for the Orange and Brown in 2014-15. Named the MAC Women's Golfer of the Week on Sept. 26, she posted a stroke average of 79.15 over 20 rounds of play last year. Wilson, who carded a low round 74 in the first round of play at the Cleveland State Invitational in the fall of 2013, recorded three top-20 finishes on the season, including a first-place win at the Cleveland State Invitational (74-75) with a combined tournament low score of 149, +3. At the 2013 Redbird Invitational, Wilson finished in a tie at 34th-place overall (75-79-80).
After being in and out of the lineup throughout most of last season, Lewis will open up the 2014 season in the lineup for Coach Young's squad. Last year in 2013-14, Lewis turned in a stroke average of 79.60 over 20 rounds of play on the year and carded a low round 72 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate. She posted a ninth-place finish at the Cleveland State Invitational with a 36-hole score of 155, +9 (76-79) and finished in a tie at 22nd-place overall at the Redbird Invitational (75-75-80) last fall.
Bartell had a record setting season in 2013-14 with a stroke average of 77.13 over 23 rounds of play on the season, which ranks as the lowest single season stroke average in BGSU women's golf history. Named the MAC Women's Golfer of the Week on April 17, Bartell carded a low round 69 in the first round of play at the Redbird Invitational, which ranks as the second lowest 18-hole score in BGSU history. She also shot a sub-par round of 71, -1 under par, at the Redbird Invitational to finish in second-place overall at the Redbird Invitational (69-71-76). Last year, she recorded four top-five finishes on the season, including posting her first-ever intercollegiate victory with a first-place finish at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational (76-75). Bartell placed in a tie for second at the Cleveland State Invitational (75-75) and finished in a tie for fourth-place with a combined score of 155 at the 2014 Colonel Classic (81-74) last year.
Rounding out the BGSU lineup for the season opening tournament is Diehl. Diehl posted a stroke average of 83.40 over five rounds of play last year, as she played at the Cleveland State Invitational carding rounds of 86 and 80 to finish the two-day event with a score of 166. She also carded rounds of 84 and 87 at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational and shot an 80 at the WMU vs. BGSU Dual Match last year.
