Babers Revamps Coaching Staff
January 11, 2015 | Football
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Head football coach Dino Babers has revamped his coaching staff with the announcement that four assistant coaches will hold new positions for the 2015 season. Kim McCloud will serve as assistant head coach/wide receivers next season, Sean Lewis will coach the quarterbacks & tight ends, Mike Lynch will move to the offensive line, and Tom Freeman will serve as the assistant offensive line coach.
"The changes made to the coaching staff will help the program further develop going forward into next season," Babers began. "This allows some of our assistants to get back to their natural positions which they have played and coached at in the past, which will make our coaching staff more experienced and allow us to get the most out of our student-athletes."
After serving as defensive coordinator this past season, McCloud will be elevated to assistant head coach and wide receivers coach next season. McCloud has experience as both a defensive secondary and wide receivers coach during his career. He has coached at Missouri, Idaho, Nevada, Baylor, Akron, and Eastern Illinois prior to coming with Babers to Bowling Green.
Lewis, who was recruited as a top quarterback out of high school, played quarterback and tight end during his collegiate playing career at Wisconsin. Lewis has coached tight ends during 2010 at Nebraska Omaha, before becoming an offensive assistant at Akron in 2011. Lewis coached receivers at Eastern Illinois for two seasons before joining Babers' staff at BGSU.
Lynch, who coached the running backs during the past two seasons, will coach the offensive line next season. Lynch was an offensive lineman at the University of Montana during his playing career. He has had coaching stops at Montana, Utah State, and Eastern Illinois prior to coming to Bowling Green.
Freeman will serve as assistant offensive line coach in 2015, after coaching the defensive line in 2014. With more than 30 years of experience, the veteran coach has vast experience on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
With the departure of BGSU's co-offensive coordinators following the 2014 season, Babers currently has two open assistant coaching positions left to fill on his staff – one offensive and one defensive.
"We are diligently looking for the best coaches to fill out the remaining positions on our staff – coaches who will mesh with our student athletes and fit in with the existing coaching staff here at Bowling Green," Babers finished.
