Burke, Wheat Named Pizza Hut Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Pizza Hut Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Tommy Burke and track and field athlete Makenzie Wheat.
Male Athlete of the Week
Tommy Burke, a junior from Chaska, Minn., stopped 38 shots Saturday night, backstopping the BGSU hockey team to a 3-2 victory over No. 11 Michigan Tech. Burke made at least 10 saves in each of the three periods, shutting out the Huskies in two of the three frames. The Falcons were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, including killing off a power player over the final 3:15 of the contest to earn two points.
Female Athlete of the Week
Makenzie Wheat, a sophomore from Aurora, Ind., broke the school record in the shot put Saturday, a mark that had stood for 21 years. She threw the apparatus 52-feet-1, a distance that ranks 19th in the country this year. Wheat is also fifth-best in the nation among first or second-year student-athletes.
