Final Meet Results
Buffalo, New York – The Bowling Green State University swim and dive team won seven events on Saturday afternoon, including a sweep of the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, but was edged out by Buffalo, 154-146.
"Hopefully this was a wake up call and we will pull things together better in few weeks," said head coach Petra Martin. "Every person matters, and will or won't make a difference in how successful we will be in the end. I hope we realized that today."
Sophomore Estela Davis continued to thrive, winning a meet-high three individual events. She swam a time of 55.99 in the 100 backstroke and was followed by Maya Skorupski in second place and Haley Roberts in third. In the 200 back, Davis placed first with a 2:00.86 and newcomer Franziska Wohlert finished behind her, swimming a 2:03.69. Ranked second in the MAC in the 400 individual medley, Davis earned her third victory in the event this season.
Jordan Bullock, Kristin Filby and Daniela Carrillo all won individual events of their own. Bullock swam a time of 2:06.40 in the 200 butterfly. Filby led the Falcon sweep in the 100 breaststroke, with Carrillo and Carmen Young not far behind. In the 200 breaststroke, the tables were turned as Carrillo placed first and Filby finished in second.
The 200 medley relay team of Skorupski, Carrillo, Maria Galic and Victoria Griffin finished in first place with a time of 1:44.65.
With the loss, the Falcons drop to 8-1 on the season, and the Bulls snapped BG's winning streak of 13 straight dual meet victories dating back to last season.
Bowling Green next competes at Youngstown State on Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. This is the last dual meet of the season before Mid-American Conference Championships Feb. 25-28.
