Falcons Place Sixth Of 35 Teams At Paul Short Run

Bethlehem, Pa. -- The BGSU women's cross country team traveled to Lehigh University to participate in the Paul Short Run Friday morning. They competed in the college women's gold heat against 34 other schools and 312 runners. For the first time this season, team scores were recorded and the Falcons placed sixth with 225 points.
Redshirt freshman Rachel Walny continues to improve with each race. Trailing the top runner by just nine seconds, she was the first to cross the finish line for BG, placing sixth with a time of 20:36. Walny shaved 50 seconds off of her previous personal best set just two weeks ago.
Also improving their personal best times were senior Becca Rae and redshirt junior MacKenzie McMillin. Rae, who placed 26th overall with a time of 21:12, knocked a second off of her previous time. With a time of 21:40, McMillin improved four seconds and finished 64th.
The top seven runners for the Orange and Brown were Walny, Rae, Jasmine Redman, McMillin, Andrea Alt, Elena Lancioni and Rebecca Schott.
The University of Guelph won the meet with 105 points, followed by Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Connecticut and James Madison. Buffalo was the only other Mid-American Conference school at the meet, placing eighth overall with 314 points. The Falcons also defeated two schools from "Power 5" conferences in South Carolina (18th place) and Rutgers (23rd place).
Both men's and women's cross country will be back in action Oct. 17 at Pre-Nationals in Louisville, Ky.
