Three Falcons Place in the Top-15, as BGSU Finishes Fourth Overall at CSU Invitational

Aurora, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team had three golfers in Pablo Heredia Iglesias, Jose Narro and Brett Rinker finish in the top-15 overall to lead the Falcons to a fourth-place team finish with a score of 869, +5, at the Cleveland State Invitational held at the Barrington Golf Club in Aurora, Ohio.
The Falcons finished with team rounds of 289, 296 and 284 to finish fourth out of the 13-team field. BGSU finished ahead of Cleveland State (877), Wright State (880), Youngstown State (881), Appalachian State (884), Detroit (892), Northern Kentucky (899), Robert Morris (901), IPFW (912) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (935).
"We didn't finish the tournament where we wanted to," commented head coach Kevin Farrell. "Although we had some low scores today, we learned this week that you have to finish out each and every round strong in order to compete for championships, which is our goal each time out."
Iglesias finished in fifth-place overall with his 54-hole score of 212, -4 under par, a new career-best score as a Falcon. The freshman finished with rounds of 72, 70 and 70, over the three rounds of play and posted a team-best 14 birdies to go along with 31 pars over his 54 holes of play.
Joining Iglesias with a sub-par final round of play on Tuesday was both Narro with a round of 68, -4 under par, and Rinker with his third round score of 71, -1 under par.
The juniors ended the two-day event in a tie at 14th-place overall with 54-hole scores of 218, +2. Narro finished with rounds of 72, 78 and 68, which included nine birdies and 34 pars overall. Rinker improved over all three rounds of play with scores of 74, 73 and 71. He finished the tournament with six birdies and a team-high 41 pars.
Trey Walker carded his second straight round of 75, +3, on Tuesday to finish with rounds of 80, 75 and 75 for a final 54-hole score of 230, +14, good enough to place him in a tie for 54th-place overall, while sophomore Mitchell Kontak placed in a tie for 61st with a three-round combined score of 232, +16, comprised up of scores of 71, 83 and 78.
Kent State ran away with the event with a final round 276, -12 under par, and a 54-hole team score of 847, -17 under par, to take first-place honors.
Oakland finished in second with a team score of 867, +3, while Dayton took third overall at 868, +4, finishing one stroke ahead of BGSU.
The Falcons will return to action in two weeks, when BGSU will play in the Mountaineer Intercollegiate on Oct. 19-20 hosted by West Virginia University at the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va.
