11 Falcons Named Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2015 Football Academic All-MAC team as a total of 124 students were named to the 2015 Academic All-MAC team. 11 members of the Bowling Green State University football program earned Academic All-MAC honors. Student-athletes must hold a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 and have participated in at least 50% of their team's contests.

Tyler Tate headlines the class, as he is one of three students named as a four-time selection. Tate, a native of Carroll, Ohio, holds a 3.95 GPA in exercise science. He is joined by Akron's Robert Stein and Ball State's Jacob Richard as four-time recipients of the Academic All-MAC award. One of the best kickers in school history, Tate has added kickoffs to his repertoire this season. He has made eight field goals and added a school-record 72 extra points.

Six Falcons earned Academic All-MAC recognition for the second time in their career, headlined by Academic All-America recipient Joseph Davidson. Davidson holds a 3.95 GPA in mathematics and was named first team All-MAC this season, thanks in part to his MAC-leading 45.6 yards per punt average. Redshirt sophomore Nate Locke headlines the list of Academic All-MAC award winners with his perfect 4.00 GPA in psychology. Locke is one of just three football student-athletes in the Mid-American Conference to hold a perfect 4.00 GPA on the Academic All-MAC teams.

Four other Falcons also earned recognition for the second time in their career. Zac Bartman, a native of Mansfield, Ohio, holds a 3.53 GPA in mathematics. Logan Dietz, the Falcons starting right tackle, holds a 3.51 GPA in finance. Dietz is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. Ryan Hunter, a native of North Bay, Ontario, holds a 3.73 GPA in criminal justice. The sixth Falcon to earn honors for the second time in his career was Ben Steward, who has a 3.65 GPA in exercise science.

A total of four more Falcons earned Academic All-MAC honors for the first time in their career. Alfonso Mack, who boasts a 3.96 GPA in psychology, earned Academic All-MAC a few short weeks after earning CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition. Mack has started 11 games this season and leads the team with six interceptions. Terrance Bush, who has started at defensive end all season, earned honors with a 3.50 GPA in biology. Additionally, Trevor Roop earned Academic All-MAC for the first time in his career after registering a 3.71 GPA in public health. The Crestview, Ohio native has been a key contributor on the Falcons' special teams this season. Finally, Donovan Wilson earned honors with a 3.25 GPA in communications. Wilson, a native of Dublin, Ohio, is second on the team in rushing touchdowns with seven.
