CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2015 All-MAC teams on Wednesday morning, with 11 Bowling Green State University football players being honored. Five Falcons were named to the first team, second-most among MAC teams. BGSU, with 11 players named to the All-MAC teams, tied for most among conference teams with both Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
Â
Matt Johnson, the 2015 MAC Offensive Player of the Year and Vern Smith Leadership Award winner, headlines the 11 Falcons named to the All-MAC teams. Johnson was named to the first team at quarterback. He was joined on the first team by wide receiver Roger Lewis, running back Travis Greene, linebacker Austin Valdez, and punter Joseph Davidson. Four Falcons – Alex Huettel (offensive line), Jacob Bennett (offensive line), Gehrig Dieter (wide receiver), and Trenton Greene (linebacker) – were named second team All-MAC, while Ryan Burbrink (punt returner) and Ronnie Moore (wide receiver) earned third team All-MAC honors.
Â
Johnson, a native of Harrisburg, Pa., passed for a school-record 4,465 yards. He enters Friday's MAC Championship Game just 22 yards shy of becoming the single-season passing leader in Mid-American Conference history. His 41 passing touchdowns – and 45 total – are tied with Omar Jacobs for the school and MAC single-season record. Johnson leads the Football Bowl Subdivision in passing yards and points responsible for, while he is second in passing touchdowns.

Â
For the second straight season, Lewis earns first team honors at wide receiver. He is the first Falcon since BooBoo Gates (2013-14) to earn first team All-MAC recognition in back-to-back seasons, and the first offensive player since Kamar Jorden in 2010-11 to do so. Lewis has 1,401 receiving yards to date, second-most in the country entering Friday's MAC Championship Game. He has caught 14 touchdowns this season – tied for third-most in school history for a single season. In just two short seasons, Lewis already ranks fifth in school history with 2,494 career receiving yards.
Â
Greene, a native of Carol City, Fla., earns first team All-MAC honors for the first time in his career. The Falcons' all-time career rushing leader, Greene has 1,036 yards this season. He is just the second Falcon in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in multiple seasons during a career. Greene, who earned second team All-MAC recognition in 2013, has rushed for 12 touchdowns this season. Starting all 12 games thus far, Greene has also added 24 receptions for 223 yards and two touchdowns through the air this season.
Â
Valdez, a redshirt sophomore from Sylvania, Ohio, earned first team All-MAC honors in 2015. Valdez has shined all season from his middle linebacker spot, totaling 120 tackles to lead the Orange and Brown. After beginning his career at quarterback, Valdez has flourished at linebacker under defensive coordinator Brian Ward. Valdez is third on the Falcons with 9.0 tackles for loss this season and has also added a sack. He has shown his versatility all over the field throughout the season, intercepting two passes, registering five pass breakups and adding a quarterback hurry.
Â
Davidson, a native of Findlay, Ohio, is the fifth Falcon to earn first team All-MAC in 2015. Davidson has excelled all season for the Orange and Brown, averaging a MAC-best 45.5 yards per punt on 44 attempts. All season he has consistently used his left foot and his big 6-foot-7 frame to pin opponents deep in their territory and flip the field. Of his 44 punts, Davidson has had 13 land inside the 20, 14 travel over 50 yards, and just three go for touchbacks. Davidson earned two MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week awards throughout the 2015 regular season and has been named CoSIDA Academic All-District for his efforts both on the field and in the classroom.
Â
Two Falcon offensive lineman were named second team All-MAC, headlined by Huettel who earns second team for the third straight season. Huettel, a redshirt senior from Pickerington, Ohio, has started 53 consecutive games entering Friday night. He is joined on the second team by Bennett, the Falcons' left tackle who has started 40 games in a row. Bennett, a redshirt junior, is a native of Lebanon, Ohio. Huettel and Bennett earn the recognition in part to their contributions towards the strong BGSU offensive effort all season long. The Falcons' average 44.2 points per game, fourth-best in the nation. Their 566.0 total offensive yards per game is third-best in the FBS, while the 387.8 passing yards per game is also third-best. For Bennett, the All-MAC recognition marks the first of his career.
Â
Joining Bennett as first-time honorees on the All-MAC teams are Dieter and Trenton Greene. Dieter, a redshirt junior from South Bend, Ind., leads the Orange and Brown with 82 receptions this season for 882 yards and nine scores. He has started all 12 games for the Falcons and registered 10-or-more catches in three games during 2015. Dieter's most impressive performance came on Nov. 17 vs. Toledo, when he had 13 receptions for 103 yards and a career-high three touchdowns.
Â
Greene, the brother of BGSU running back Travis Greene, earned the honor for the first time in his career at linebacker. A walk-on for the Falcons until earning a scholarship in August 2015, Greene finished second on the team with 111 total tackles. A redshirt junior, Greene totaled double-digit tackles in five games this year, including in three of the last four regular season games. His 7.5 tackles for loss are among the defensive leaders for the Falcons, while he also added 2.0 sacks. Greene registered two pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery.
Â
Two Falcon wide receivers – Moore and Burbrink – earned third team All-MAC honors. Moore earned the award thanks to his 62 catches for 818 yards, while Burbrink earned honors as a punt returner. Moore, a junior from Sanford, Fla., has totaled six touchdowns this season – five through the air and one on the ground. Moore – known for his explosiveness and quickness – averaged 13.2 yards per reception this season, second-best on the team. His best game of the season came in a seven-catch, 151-yard, two-touchdown performance in a win at Kent State. Burbrink, a redshirt senior from Shady Side, Md., earned All-MAC honors as a punt returner for the third consecutive season. Burbrink earned second-team honors in 2013 before being named first team All-MAC in 2014. Known as one of the most explosive and sure-handed returners in the MAC, opponents have schemed against Burbrink's potential this season, allowing him to get just 10 return opportunities through the regular season.
Â
These 11 Falcons will take the field on Friday night looking to claim Bowling Green's 12th Mid-American Conference championship in school history. BGSU will be looking to win their second MAC Championship Game at Ford Field in the last three seasons when they make their third straight appearance against Northern Illinois in the game. Kickoff at Ford Field is set for 8:00 pm on ESPN2.
