Falcons Post Final Round of 286 at the Barona Collegiate Cup

Lakeside, California – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team posted a third round combined team score of 286, -2 under par, on Tuesday, matching its first round 286 on Monday at the Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State University at the Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside, California.
With their three rounds of 286, 309 and 286 over two-day event, the Falcons finished in a tie for 11th-place overall with UC Santa Barbara out of the 13-team field with a 54-hole combined team score of 881, +17.
"I gave the guys a target of 288 today and we hit it. These teams are very good and they don't deal with snow throughout the winter months," commented head coach Kevin Farrell. "We are close to being good."
Sophomore Jose Narro led the Falcons with a third round 69, -3 under par on Tuesday. Combined with his first round score of 69, -3, and second round, 80, +8, on day one of play, the Tampico, Mexico native finished in a tie for 29th-place overall with a 54-hole score of 218, +2. Narro finished the event with 12 birdies and 30 pars over his three rounds of play.
Not to be outdone, fellow sophomore Brett Rinker also finished in a tie for 29th-place overall with a combined three-round score of 218, +2. Rinker carded rounds of 74, 72 and another round of 72, even par, on Tuesday, finishing the two-day event with a total of 11 birdies and 32 pars overall.
Matching Rinker's final round of 72, even par, was fellow teammate Joe Cooper. With Cooper's third round 72 on Tuesday, combined with his first two rounds of 70, -2 under par, and 80, +8, on Monday, the senior ended the tournament with a 54-hole score of 222, +6, and in a tie for 47th-place overall. The lefty wrapped up his two days of play with two eagles, seven birdies and 30 pars. Cooper was tied for the tournament high with two eagles over the 54 holes of play and was fourth overall in par-5 scoring at 4.25, -9 under par, for the tournament.
On the heels of both Rinker and Cooper on Tuesday was senior Ryan Triller who turned in a round of 73, +1, over the final round of play. Triller, who carded a 77, +5, and a 78, +6, on Monday, shot his best round of the tournament on Tuesday en route to a three-round combined score of 228, +12. Placing in a tie for 65th-place overall, Triller tallied seven birdies and 31 pars for the three rounds of play.
Freshman Cameron Michalak rounded out the BGSU lineup at the Barona Collegiate Cup, finishing the two-day event with a final round of 81, +9, on Tuesday. Michalak, who carded rounds of 73, +1, and 79, +7, on day one of play, finished the event in 73rd-place overall with a combined tournament score of 233, +17. He finished the event with five birdies and 33 pars overall.
San Diego State, the host institution, carded a third round team score of 273 to come back and pick up the first-place win with a tournament low 54-hole score of 833, -31.
Behind the Aztecs were San Diego in second-place (845, -19) and Sacramento State in third (853, -11).
The Falcons will not return to the links for competition in well over a month, as BGSU will next be in action on March 23-24 at the Lone Star Invitational hosted by UT-San Antonio at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
