Falcons return home to face Toledo Friday
The University at Buffalo won a closely-contested doubles point, then swept the singles portion of Sunday's (March 29) match, downing the Bowling Green State University tennis team, 7-0. The Mid-American Conference dual match was held at Miller Tennis Center.
The Bulls won a 6-1 decision at the third doubles flight, but the other two doubles matches went right down to the wire. At the top flight, BGSU sophomore Harley Hutchison and freshman Megan Miller were locked in a 6-6 battle with UB's team of Margarita Kotok and Dayana Agasieva. But, that match was halted as the Bulls pulled out a tight match at the second flight.
The number-two flight saw the hosts' Laura Holterbosch and Doris Aleksovska edge Falcon sophomore Brittany Plaszewski and freshman Emily Witt by a 7-5 count to take the day's initial point.
In singles, the Bulls captured each of the six matches. The closest match came at the top flight, where Tanja Stojanovska eked out a 7-5 win over Miller in the opening set before closing out the win with a second-set victory.
Hutchison, Witt, Plaszewski, sophomore Antonina Farrar and freshman Sydney Seeley rounded out the Falcons' singles lineup from flights two through six, respectively.
"I'm very proud of how the girls competed this weekend," said Falcon coach Olga Elkin. "They showed great effort and had a lot of fun on the court. It was fun to watch them support each other and leave everything on the court."
The Falcons now return home for the next two matches, beginning with a Friday (April 3) match vs. the arch-rival University of Toledo. That dual is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus.
