Bowling Green State University Athletics
Hawkins, Lievendag Named Pizza Hut Athletes Of The Week
March 09, 2015 | General, Ice Hockey, Gymnastics
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Pizza Hut Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Brandon Hawkins and gymnast Amanda Lievendag.

Male Athlete of the Week
Brandon Hawkins, a freshman from Macomb, Mich., had two goals and two assists as Bowling Green closed out the regular season with a sweep of Alabama Huntsville to solidify the team's at-large position for the NCAA Tournament. Hawkins had two goals and an assist in Friday night's 7-2 win over the Chargers, which included the program's first penalty shot goal since 2010. That tally put the Falcons ahead 4-0 and his second goal, a power play marker, made it 6-0. He assisted on the team's fifth goal of the night. On Saturday, he assisted on the game-winning power play goal in a 2-1 victory, thwarting a clear attempt and finding classmate Mitch McLain for a goal.
Female Athlete of the Week
Amanda Lievendag, a senior from Baldwin, Mary., scored a pair of 9.800 scores at Bowling Green's quad meet on March 6 in East Lansing, Michigan with Michigan State, Arizona and Eastern Michigan. As a team, Bowling Green earned some strong team scores on the two events that Lievendag competed on. On vault, Bowling Green earned a season-best 49.000. On bars, the Falcons notched a 48.950 – the team's second-highest mark on the apparatus in 2015. The Falcons – who posted their second-best team score (195.250) of the season at the competition – defeated No. 23 Michigan State and No. 33 Eastern Michigan. The Falcons were bested only by No. 19 Arizona's 195.450.
