Falcons Climb Two Spots to Take Fifth at the 2015 Rutherford Intercollegiate

State College, Pennsylvania – All five Falcon golfers posted a final round in the 70's on Sunday, as the Bowling Green State University men's golf team climbed up two spots on the final day of play to take fifth-place overall with a combined team score of 895, +43, at the 2015 Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State University at the Penn State Golf Course – Blue Course in State College, Pa.
The Falcons turned in rounds of 294, 304 and 297 to end the two-day event in fifth-place out of the 12 team field with a combined score of 895, +43. BGSU finished just two strokes out of fourth-place and only nine strokes out of the top-three.
"We have had an up and down year, but can still be a sleeper going into the MAC Championship Tournament in a few weeks," commented head coach Kevin Farrell. "We are going to work hard these next two weeks and prepare for the MAC's because this year it is wide open and any team can get hot, play well, and win the tournament."
With his final round of 73, +2, sophomore Jose Narro moved up three places on the day to finish in a tie for 12th-place overall. For the two days of play, Narro posted rounds of 76, 72 and 73 to finish with a 54-hole score of 221, +8.
Matching Narro with a final round 73, +2, was fellow Falcon Joe Cooper. Cooper bounced back from a second round 79, +8, to shoot a 73 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 16th-place overall. The senior recorded a 54-hole score of 222, +9, with his rounds of 70, 79 and 73 on the weekend.
Ending the weekend in a tie for 28th-place overall was both Ryan Triller and Brett Rinker with identical three-round combined scores of 226, +13. Triller carded rounds of 75, 77 and 74 over his two days of play, while Rinker turned in rounds of 73, 76 and 77.
Freshman Cameron Michalak shot his best round of the tournament on Sunday, as he finished with a final round 77, +6. With scores of 82, 80 and 77, the BGSU freshman finished in a tie for 67th-place with a 54-hole tournaments score of 239, +26.
Penn State held on to win its home event with a three-round combined team score of 868, +16, pulling away with a team-low round 296, +12, on Sunday.
Eastern Michigan finished in second-place overall with a team score of 876, +24, while Rutgers took third-place with a tournament team score of 886, +34.
Individually, both Jack Sedgewick of Binghamton and Sam Madsen of Georgetown finished the 54-holes of play in a tie for first-place overall with duplicate scores of 212, -1 under par. Sedgewick went on to edge Madsen in a one-hole playoff on 18 to claim first-place outright.
BGSU will now set its sights on the 2015 MAC Men's Golf Championship, which will be hosted by Akron at the Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio on May 1-3.
