Brooke Pleger Named MAC Field Athlete Of The Week
April 28, 2015 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – Following a record-breaking performance in the hammer throw Friday at the Ashland Alumni Open, Bowling Green State University redshirt senior Brooke Pleger has been named the Mid-American Conference's Field Athlete of the Week.
Pleger broke both the MAC and school records in the hammer throw when she posted a distance of 225-feet-11. The mark is better than the all-time MAC best of 223-4 set by Akron's Stevi Large in 2009 and is better than BGSU's previous school record of 223-0, set by Pleger a year ago.
Since she opened the outdoor season by winning the Toledo Dual with a distance of 222-4, Pleger has been ranked No. 1 in the country in the hammer throw. Her most recent performance is more the five feet further than any other collegian has thrown this year and makes her the seventh-best American collegian of all-time. She has the five longest throws in NCAA Division I this year and eight of the top 10 tosses.
With the honor, Pleger has been named the MAC Field Athlete of the Week twice this year and nine times in her career (eight times in outdoor and once during indoor season). Last week, she was recognized as BGSU's Female Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year and earned the department's Falcon Medal of Honor, the highest award the department gives a student-athlete.
