Toledo, Ohio β Junior Kera Lamotte set a new personal best and sprinted to victory in the 100 at the Toledo Invitational Friday afternoon. Lamotte and a handful of Falcons took advantage of their final opportunity to qualify for next week's MAC Championships by setting new personal bests.
Β
Lamotte shattered her previous career best time of 12.23 seconds in the 100, which she set at the Tennessee Relays in early April. She raced to a time of 12.09 seconds to edge out teammate Dorresha Green for first place. Green, just a freshman, also set a personal best with a time of 12.15 seconds to place second. Her previous best has been 12.41 seconds at last week's Jesse Owens Classic. Sophomore Brianna Johnson added a season-best time in the 100 of 12.58 seconds.
Β
Sophomore Raven Porter excelled in a pair of events Friday β the high jump and the triple jump. She tied her career-best in the high jump by leaping 5-feet-7 to place second overall. She added a season-best triple jump effort at 37-0.25, just two inches shy of her career best in that event.
Β
Another sophomore, Rachel Durbin, continues to rebound from an injury that forced her out of action for much of the past year. She set a new personal best in the 1500 by more than three seconds, running 4:50.35.
Β
Two freshmen also put together their best performances of their short collegiate careers. Sydnee Matthew ran the 100 hurdles in 14.89 seconds, more than a half second faster than her prior best. Libby Burkhart posted her best distance in the javelin, throwing 111-2.25, almost four inches than she had thrown in competition previously.
Β
"We had some positives today finishing off the regular season well," BGSU Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling said.Β "The team has put themselves in a great place to achieve the overall goals we set for the MAC Championships."
Β
BGSU will compete in the three-day MAC Championships beginning Thursday at Ball State University. The Falcons entered this weekend as the No. 1 seed in three events β the hammer throw, the 400 hurdles and the 400 relay.
