Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University women's golf head coach Stephanie Young is excited to announce the upcoming 2015-16 schedule for the Falcons, which will include BGSU's annual Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Florida and the sixth annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational held at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
"We are thrilled about the upcoming season's schedule. I believe it is one of the most challenging yet for our program," stated Coach Young. "There are two new events (on our schedule) that we were honored to receive an invitation to compete in – at Iowa in September and at ORU/SFA in March. In addition, several events will include challenging golf courses where we will compete against our conference opponents."
For the fifth straight year, the BGSU women's golf team will open up its fall slate at the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. The two-day event will take place on Sept. 6-7 at the Weibring Golf Club. The Falcons took second-place overall at the Redbird Invitational in 2012 and third-place in 2013.
BGSU will then continue its 2015 fall slate on Sept. 12-13 at the Diane Thomason Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, before teeing-off at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University on Sept. 21-22 at The Players Club in Yorktown, Indiana. The 2015 Cardinal Classic will mark the second straight year that the Falcons have competed in the event, as BGSU earned a third-place team finish in 2014.
Coach Young's squad will then return to the links on Oct. 5-6 to take part in the Rocket Classic hosted by the University of Toledo at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio. The Falcons took second-place overall at the event in 2013 and finished in fourth-place as a team in 2014.
Bowling Green will conclude its 2015 fall stale on Oct. 11-12 at The Preview event hosted by Eastern Michigan University at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana. The two-day event not only gives the Falcons, but all 10 of the MAC schools a chance to play the same exact course that will serve as the site for the 2016 MAC Women's Golf Championships come April.
"Another highlight is our third annual Match Play event which will expand to a 12 team field this year due to high demand from teams," continued Young. "And finally, we always look forward to hosting our annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational; it is special for our players to compete at home in BG and honor former Coach Black, alums, and friends at our dinner event."
The 2016 spring season will once again begin with the Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge hosted by the Falcons on Feb. 8-9 at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. At last year's match play event, the Falcons went 2-1-0 overall as a team and took third-place overall in the head-to-head challenge with wins over Western Michigan and Akron.
The Falcons will then fly west to take part in the Rio Verde Invitational hosted by Western Michigan University on Feb. 26-28 at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Arizona. BGSU is no stranger to the Broncos' annual event, as the Falcons have teed-off in the spring invitational in each of the last three years.
Just over three weeks later, BGSU will head to Dallas, Texas to play in the ORU/SFA Women's Spring Break Invite co-hosted by Oral Roberts University and Stephen F. Austin State University on Mar. 14-15 at The Trophy Club.
On Apr. 9-10, the Falcons will host its annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational for the sixth straight year, as BGSU has not finished lower than fourth-place in the team standings in each of the past three events. The two-day event will once again be held at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The Dolores Black Falcon Invitational will conclude the regular season slate of events for the Falcons, as Bowling Green will then set its sights on the 2016 MAC Women's Golf Championships on Apr. 22-24. This year's conference championship tournament will be hosted by Eastern Michigan at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana.
