DALLAS, Texas—The PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced today the preseason candidates for the 2015 Doak Walker Award. Bowling Green State University redshirt senior running back Travis Greene was named to the prestigious preseason watch list. The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back.
Â
Greene has shined in his two seasons at running back for the Orange and Brown. A native of Carol City, Fla., the redshirt senior enters the 2015 season fifth all-time in the Bowling Green annals with 2,553 rushing yards. During the 2014 season, Greene started 12 games, rushing for 949 yards and 12 touchdowns. He went over 100 yards on five occasions, and had four games with multiple touchdowns. In 2013, Greene bursts on to the scene as he rushed for a school record 1,594 yards. In his first season at tailback, Greene had nine 100-yard rushing games to match a school record. He enters the 2015 season as the eighth-leading active rusher in FBS football.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists on November 18, and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast votes to determine the three finalists, who will be announced on November 24. The committee will cast a second vote beginning November 30 to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.
Â
The recipient of the 2015 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 10, on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas in early 2016.
