BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University football team took part in their first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday morning on the practice fields outside of Doyt L. Perry Stadium. The scrimmage was about 170 plays and featured several strong performances from both the offense and the defense.
Â
For much of the morning the first-team offense was on the field against the second-team defense, but both first units also squared off at times throughout the session. The second-team offense saw much of their time against the first-unit defense, while the third-team offense and defense matched up for most of the scrimmage.
Â
Early in the scrimmage the offense was clicking, as Matt Johnson found Teo Redding for a 95-yard touchdown pass down the sideline to get the scoring started. Redding, who missed camp last season due to an injury suffered in the spring game, caught three touchdown passes throughout the scrimmage.
Â
On the next offensive drive running back Donovan Wilson broke through for a long run, scampering 85 yards untouched for another offensive touchdown. Both Ronnie Moore and Chris Gallon also caught touchdown passes during the scrimmage.
Â
Defensively, the Falcons forced at least two turnovers throughout the morning, both coming from newcomers. Defensive back Tavarus Wade intercepted a tipped pass early in the scrimmage, while true freshman linebacker Blake Lucky recovered a mishandled snap later on.
Â
The special teams were on point as well, as All-MAC placekicker Tyler Tate banged home several field goals, including many from long range.
Â
Following the scrimmage, the media who were on hand spoke with Dino Babers, Matt Johnson and Teo Redding about the scrimmage. Video interviews from the media session can be found at the links above. Additionally, a photo gallery from the first scrimmage of #BGCamp15 can be found above. The Falcons will now have Sunday to rest without a practice session, before returning to the field for their second two-a-day of #BGCamp15 on Monday.
Â
The next scrimmage of fall camp will be next Saturday (Aug. 22) and will be followed by the season ticket holder gathering at the Stroh Center.
