August 25, 2015 | Women's Track and Field
Bowling Green, Ohio – BGSU Track and Field head coach Lou Snelling has announced that alumnus Brooke Pleger has been named an assistant coach for the 2015-16 season. Pleger is one of the most decorated student-athletes in Bowling Green State University history and a three-time All-American in the hammer throw, placing third at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in each of the past two years.
"I'm thrilled to have Brooke join our staff," Snelling said. "She brings a wealth of experience and accomplishments from her days as a student-athlete. Those qualities that helped her achieve at such a high level will be invaluable to the staff and program."
Pleger is the school record holder in the hammer throw with a toss of 228-feet-9 to win her third consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship in May of 2015. She is the first female three-time All-American in BGSU history and is a two-time Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year, a two-time MAC Most Outstanding Field Athlete and a two-time BGSU Female Athlete of the Year. Additionally, she excelled in the classroom, twice being named an Academic All-American, as well as Academic All-MAC and a MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.
"I am very excited to join the staff," Pleger said. "I have been a part of the program for the last five years as an athlete, so I am really excited to step into this new role and learn about being on the coaching side."
Pleger will be involved in all aspects of the program including recruiting, coaching, administrative work and meet management. She will also continue to train as a post-collegian with the goal of competing internationally for Team USA.
