Cross Country/Track Program Hires Assistant Coach Chuck Wentz
September 16, 2015 | Men's Cross Country
Bowling Green, Ohio – Head cross country/track & field coach Lou Snelling announced the hiring of Chuck Wentz as an assistant coach for the programs, focusing on the day-to-day operations of men's cross country. Wentz joins the staff after spending last season with Morehead State.
"I am excited to accept this position," Wentz stated. "It is a great university to work for and the MAC is a first class conference to compete in. We have a storied tradition that goes back many years and a talented and promising group of young men that I believe will cause people to take note of their accomplishments as they compete throughout the season."
Wentz coached at his alma mater, Shawnee State, for three years (2011-2014) prior to joining the Morehead State coaching staff.
"I am excited to have Coach Wentz join the staff," head coach Lou Snelling said. "He has a lot of ties to the state of Ohio having competed here in both high school and college. He will do a great job helping our program continue to improve."
While coaching at Morehead State he guided the men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, the program's best showing since 2006. Wentz also assisted the MSU women to their highest NCAA regional finish in school history.
At Shawnee State, where he held three outdoor track records, Wentz helped the men's cross country program to three top-10 finishes at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national meet. He also mentored the women's program to a trio of top-25 national finishes and their highest placements at the NAIA.
Wentz earned his bachelor's degree in integrated social studies education from SSU in 2011. He earned a master's degree in educational administration from Ohio University in 2013 earning suma cum laude honors.
