OXFORD, Ohio – After a total of 110:00 minutes of competition, the Bowling Green women's soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Miami. In the Mid-American Conference matchup, the Falcons tallied 12 attempted shots, while freshman goalkeeper Kathleen Duwve notched six saves for her third shutout of the season.
"This was a really gritty performance against Miami today," Bowling Green women's soccer head coach Lindsay Basalyga said. "We played with a tremendous amount of discipline for 110 minutes with a back line that hasn't seen minutes together. We haven't been as effective around goal, but we looked a lot like ourselves today creating quite a few really dangerous chances."
Bowling Green came out strong by marking six shots in the first half, leading to the total of 12 on the night, while three of the attempts came from the Falcons leading scorer, junior Skylar Fleak. Other offensive chances came when redshirt sophomore Erica Hubert and freshman Hannah Dolfuss each marked two attempted shots while landing one shot on goal apiece.
Duwve tended the net for in her eighth start of the season and stopped all six shots that the Redhawks landed on goal. The native of Sylvania, Ohio faced 25 total attempted shots over the course of the 110 minutes.
"Duwve was so sharp for us again keeping the shutout which we needed for our confidence," Coach Basalyga added. "Kara Ross made an incredible impact off the bench for not seeing time since the start of MAC play as well."
In addition to Hubert and Dolfuss' shots on goal, other balls landed on net for the Falcons by shots taken by sophomore Laura Bozzelli and junior Madison Schupbach.
Although the Redhawks held the advantage in shots (25-12) and shots on goal (6-4), the pair of conference rivals were all squared up with six corner kick opportunities in the match. There were also six different Falcons who competed for the entirety of the double overtime match including Duwve, Schupbach, Alexis Fricke, Rachel Winters, Rachel Muller and Maureen Kennedy.
"We are still very much in the hunt for post-season play and although we didn't get three points, one point could mean a lot in a few weeks," said Coach Basalyga. "This was a tough road stretch, so we are excited to get back to Cochrane to round our regular season."
The Bowling Green women's soccer program will continue regular season play with a three-match home stint, beginning with a Mid-American Conference matchup with Western Michigan. The Falcons will host the Broncos on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. in Cochrane Stadium.
