Fillis, Comella Pick Up Fifth Consecutive Doubles Win Against Chicago State

Perrysburg, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team lost a close match to Chicago State Saturday evening, 4-3, at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
In doubles, senior Drew Fillis and freshman Paula Comella Aguilo picked up their fifth consecutive win by defeating Bryttish Burts and Lorea Gamboa. The pair had a commanding lead the entire match and went on to win, 6-2.
At No. 3 doubles, juniors Antonina Farrar and Leeah Floyd battled against Leshia Gadacz and Monica Pulgar. The Falcons were down 5-3 but rallied to tie the match at 6-6. The duo fell to Gadacz and Pulgar in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-3).
In singles play, freshman Polina Radeva continued her winning streak by capturing her fourth victory against Lorea Gamboa. Radeva lost just two games the entire match winning both sets, 6-1.
Aguilo added another tally to the win column, improving her record to 7-3. Aguilo defeated Marnie Perez-Ochoa 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 3 singles, Fillis won her first set against Hanna Pangestu, 6-3. In the second set, Pangestu blanked Fillis, 6-0. Fillis turned the tables in the third set by defeating Pangestu, 6-0 to take the match.
Farrar and freshman Marina Ferrero both fell in hard-fought matches. Farrar led the entire first set against Burts, winning 6-4. Burts won the second set 6-2 to force a third set. Farrar led the third set 3-2 but lost the four final games and the match to Burts. Ferrero lost the first set to Monica Pulgar, 6-1. She gathered herself in the second set to win 6-3, also forcing a third set. Pulgar went on to win the third set, 6-1.
The Falcons return to action Sunday in East Lansing, Mich. going against Michigan State at 4:00 pm.
