Falcons Prepare For A Pair Of Weekend Duals

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis team competes in two matches his weekend, beginning with a home match at the Perrysburg Tennis Center against Chicago State Saturday. On Sunday, the Falcons will travel to East Lansing, Mich. to face Michigan State.
The Falcons suffered two losses over a week ago to Cleveland State, 5-2 and IUPUI, 4-3.
Against the Vikings, the Falcons earned the doubles point but fell short in singles play. Senior Drew Fillis and freshman Paula Comella Aguilo, along with freshmen Polina Radeva and Marina Ferrero, dominated in doubles to secure the point for BG. Radeva claimed the only singles victory against Princess Gbadamosi, 7-6(5), 6-3.
BGSU saw success once again in doubles against IUPUI. Fillis and Aguilo picked up their fourth straight win at No. 1 doubles by defeating Samantha Mayer and Sara Sherif, 6-1. Teaming up for the second time were Radeva and Ferrero, who took down Rachel Swartwood and Valeriia Lavernchuk, 6-4. The two singles points were earned by Radeva and Aguilo.
Chicago State enters the weekend with a 0-9 record. The Cougars have been downed by two Mid-American Conference teams in Ball State, 7-0, and Northern Illinois, 6-1. The Falcons are 3-1 in the series between the teams, with the most recent match having been played during the 2013-14 season. A year ago, CSU was 3-19 overall and 0-5 in the Western Athletic Conference.
BGSU traveled to Chicago to begin their fall campaign at the Cougar Invitational. Radeva and sophomore Emily Witt put away Caryanne Lloyd and Bryttish Burts by taking the match, 6-0. Witt defeated Monica Pulgar 7-6 (2) in the first set, then went on to take the second set, 6-2.
No. 75 Michigan State has a 4-3 record on the season. The Spartans have lost to ranked opponents in No. 35 Auburn, No. 43 Wake Forest and most recently No. 15 Kentucky. They will face Western Michigan and Cleveland State before facing the Falcons on Sunday. This will be the 19th meeting between the teams with Michigan State leading the series 17-1. Last year, the Spartans ended the 2015 season ranked at No. 68. The team went 16-9 overall and 5-6 in the Big Ten Conference.
BGSU will return to action March 7 facing the Richmond in Orlando, Fla. While in Orlando, the Orange and Brown will also take on South Dakota March 10.
