Double Trouble Against Flames Saturday
February 06, 2016 | Women's Tennis
Perrysburg, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team saw success against Illinois-Chicago, but after the Flames were extinguished in doubles play they rallied back in singles to win the match 4-3 Saturday. The non-conference dual was held at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
The Falcons opened the match by winning two out of three doubles matches to earn the first point of the afternoon.
At No. 1 doubles, freshman Paula Comella Aguilo and senior Drew Fillis took down Oana Manole and Rachel Le Comber in a nail biter. The Flames took an early lead over Aguilo and Fillis, leading the match 3-1. The Falcons climbed their way back, tying it up 3-3. Aguilo and Fillis propelled forward to defeat Manole and LeComber in a tie-breaker 7-6(4).
Picking up their third win of the season are freshman Polina Radeva and sophomore Emily Witt. The duo led Ann-Sophie Hahn and Melika LeBlanc 3-2 before the Flames answered back to tie the match at 3-3. Radeva and Witt won the remaining three games to capture the 6-3 victory over Hahn and LeBlanc.
In singles, Aguilo and Fillis took care of business on the court to pick up wins for BG.
At No. 1 singles, Aguilo improved her record to 4-1 against Jackie Altansarnai. Aguilo led the first set before Altansarnai captured a game to bring the score to 4-1. Aguilo dropped just two games the rest of the way for a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Fillis earned a tally in the win column with a comeback victory against Manole at No. 3 singles. Manole controlled the first set and won 6-2. Fillis was down again in the second before turning the tables and taking the final three games in a 6-4 victory to force a third-set tie-breaker. In that tie-breaker, Fillis won 10-1.
The Orange and Brown return to action Sunday in Perrysburg against Wright State at 12 p.m.
