Falcons Return Home To Face UIC, Wright State This Weekend

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis team plays two home matches this weekend at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The Falcons will face the Illinois-Chicago Flames Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The team will then compete against the Wright State Raiders Sunday at noon.
The Orange and Brown played two matches last weekend, falling to Dayton Friday and No.33-ranked Notre Dame Sunday.
Against the Flyers, BG's freshmen Paula Comella Aguilo and Polina Radeva earned wins at the one and two spots in singles play. Aguilo defeated Marlys Bridgham 7-5 in the first set then 6-1 in the second set. Radeva picked up her second win of the season against Alex Townsend. Radeva dominated the first set winning 6-0. Radeva lost just one game in the second set and won 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles, Radeva and sophomore Emily Witt improved their record to 2-1 overall. The duo defeated Jackie Kawamoto and Alex Townsend. Dayton answered each game won by the Falcons. Eventually, Radeva and Witt won the battle 7-6.
In South Bend, Ind., Radeva had a close first set against No. 57-ranked Quinn Gleason. Radeva was up 1-0 on Gleason at the start. She responded each game won by Radeva. The two tied at 4-4 but Gleason went on to win the set 6-4. Radeva lost the second set 6-1.
At No. 1 doubles, Radeva and Witt took on No. 32-ranked Gleason and Monica Robinson. The Falcons had an early lead over the Irish 1-0. Gleason and Robinson rallied back tying the set at 1-1. Radeva and Witt were down 3-2 when Notre Dame went on a run, winning the next three games to capture the second set 6-2.
The Flames are 0-1 on the season falling to Marquette, 6-1. The Falcons lead, 8-3, in the all-time series between the teams. The last time the two met was during the 2006-07 season when BG defeated UIC, 5-2. During the 2014-15 campaign the Flames were 10-11 overall and 5-3 in the league. At the Horizon League Championships the team defeated number five seed Milwaukee, 4-1 in the first round. They were stopped by number one seed Youngstown State, 4-1 in the semifinals.
The Falcons saw success in both the singles and doubles top flights at the BGSU Invitational against UIC. In singles, Radeva defeated Jackie Altansrnzi, 6-1 then 7-6(4). Aguilo and senior Drew Fillis took down Altansrnzi and Ann-Sophie Hahn, 6-3 to win the doubles championship.
Wright State started off the season against Dayton with a 4-3 win. The team will face Northern Kentucky and Akron before meeting up with the Falcons Sunday. A year ago, the Raiders were 17-11 overall and 3-5 in the Horizon League. BGSU is 19-0 against Wright State with the most recent match having been played during the 2007-08 season when the Falcons swept the Raiders, 7-0.
The Falcons hit the road next week for matches against Cleveland State Friday and IUPUI Sunday.
