San Antonio, Texas – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team posted rounds of 305 and 306 on Monday to conclude day one of the 2016 Lone Star Invitational in 12th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 611, +35. The Falcons are just eight strokes out of fifth-place heading into the final round of play on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,247-yards Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas.
Just one stroke behind 11th-place Ohio State (610), the Falcons sit ahead of New Mexico State (613), Texas State (615), Louisiana-Lafayette (617), Miami (Ohio) (620) and Houston Baptist (628).
"This is a very tough golf course to play and we played well at times," stated head coach Kevin Farrell. "We need to come out and play smarter tomorrow. If we play smart, play confident and play the way I know that we can play as a team tomorrow, then we can have a strong finish."
Leading the Falcons on Monday was Brett Rinker with a two-round combined score of 148, +4. Rinker carded a first round 73, +1, to open up play on Monday and followed that up with a second round 75, +3, in the afternoon session to place in a tie for 15th overall. After a first round in which he tallied two pars and 11 pars, the first-year Falcon had an up and down second round that saw one eagle, two birdies and only seven pars over his second set of 18 holes.

The junior totaled three birdies, all of which came in the first round of play, and 20 pars to wrap up Monday in a tie for 52nd-place overall.
Freshman Trey Walker turned in rounds of 83, +11, and 78, +6, on Monday to enter Tuesday in a tie for 79th-place overall with a 36-hole combined score of 161, +17. The Bowling Green native had an eagle on hole No. 7 over the first round of play and birdied whole No. 5 in the second round.
