Junior earns weekly conference honor after hitting .444 last week
Bowling Green State University softball standout Haley Schrock has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The weekly award winners were announced by the league office on Wednesday morning (April 13).
Schrock earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Schrock, a native of Goshen, Ind. (Northridge), led the Falcons with a .444 batting average, a .545 on-base percentage and a slugging pct. of .889 last week. She was 4-for-9 at the plate with a double, a homer, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Schrock reached base twice in five plate appearances in a midweek doubleheader at Miami, then was 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a homer and a slugging pct. of 1.400 in Friday's (April 8) DH sweep of Central Michigan. Schrock had a walk and a single in the first game of the day, then gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer in the fourth inning of game two. After CMU tied the game at 1-1, she lined a ball high off the fence in left-center field for a run scoring double, and eventually came around to score as part of a four-run inning that gave the Falcons the lead for good.
On the year, Schrock is hitting .316 with 11 extra-base hits and a slugging pct. of .462. She is one of two players who has started all 39 games this spring. In MAC games to date, Schrock is hitting .273 at the plate, with a team-leading .448 OBP and a slugging pct. of .455, good for second on the team.
In the classroom, Schrock has a 3.967 cumulative grade-point average as an accounting major.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Week award is given to just one male and one female student-athlete -- across all sports -- in the conference each week.
Schrock and the Falcons (16-23, 4-6 MAC) host league-leading MU this afternoon, with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m. at Meserve Field. Admission to all home Falcons softball action is free.
